Freeserf now has the computer player of the original game, the tutorials and the end of the game, and new options that the original doesn't have.

Game logic

  • Computer player: the AI of the Amiga original. Opponents in missions and custom games place their castle, build up their economy and attack (#580, #535).
  • The emergency program of the original when the castle runs out of planks or stones (#578).
  • Tutorials 1–6 with their goals and the orders from the manual (#575, #576, #577).
  • End of the game: the winner and the original's texts and pictures (#573, #574).
  • Fixed:
    • a transporter duplicating a resource when switching at a flag, which made buildings throw "Delivered more resources than requested" (#579);
    • loading the original's save games (#585).
  • A consistency check of the game state after loading: problems are logged and repaired where possible (#586, #81).

Interface

  • Zoom: sharp pixels, growing from the centre, the panel and the boxes at most twice as large, smooth with the mouse wheel (#582, #531, #520).
  • Fixed the window maximize button on macOS (#582).
  • The game init box has a frame like the other boxes (#589).
  • Advanced options in a new box, opened from the options box (#590). All of them are off by default:
    • invert the vertical map scrolling (#458);
    • show counts over 999 shortened: 15K, .2M (#592, #475, #138);
    • autosave every 10 to 60 minutes (#593, #145);
    • a new stock shows its building box until its serf has arrived (#594, #524);
    • graphics, sounds and music from different versions, for example DOS graphics with Amiga sounds (#596, #455).
  • The options of the options box and of the advanced box are kept between runs in freeserf.ini (#591).
  • The -f (fullscreen) command line option works again (#591).
  • Ctrl+Shift+F shows the frames per second (#584).

Performance

  • Fixed-step main loop: input is handled without delay, and missed game steps are made up after slow frames (#584, #527, #445).
  • The landscape tile cache no longer grows to the whole map, about 1.3 GB on large maps (#587, #139).
  • The boxes are drawn again when Direct3D loses their textures, for example the minimap after a window resize on Windows (#588, #447).

Sound and data

  • The data of several versions can be installed together: in the subfolders dos/, amiga/ and custom/ of a data folder, or with several -g options (#595).
  • Fixed the DOS smelter sound (#581, #478).
  • The game starts without sound when no audio device can be opened (#583, #132).
  • resources/ holds images of Freeserf's own, installed with the game (#589).
