Hell's Gate Recomp — v0.8.5-beta
New
- Redesigned launcher. New look, with a side bar for Play, Settings, Controls, DLC and Updates. The Play page shows at a glance whether the game files, the Title Update and your DLC are in place, plus your current resolution and frame rate. Settings and key bindings now save automatically. Every option from before is still there.
- DLC installer (#117 and others): on the DLC page, click Install DLC... or drop files onto the page. It takes DLC files, folders and archives (.zip, .7z, .rar, also nested in subfolders), checks each package and keeps only Dante's Inferno DLC, named so the game finds it. Title updates, saves, other games' packages and anything else are skipped, with the reason. The page lists your installed DLC by name.
- ISO check before importing: the launcher now imports the game files itself on first start, and checks the ISO first. It tells you if you picked a PlayStation 3 image, a Games on Demand / DLC package, another game, or an incomplete download, and which release (region) the ISO is. After importing, it checks every file. The installer no longer asks for the ISO.
- Report a problem: one click zips your latest logs, shows the zip and opens a new GitHub issue. The crash dialog uses it too.
- Export saves: zips your saves (wherever they are: Documents, LocalAppData or portable mode) so you can back them up or attach them to a bug report.
- DSR / higher than your display (#125): picking a resolution above your display's (for example 3840x2160 with NVIDIA DSR) switches fullscreen to that display mode.
Fixes
- Crash at startup "write of guest 0x82CE68E4" (#99, #120, #122, #123, #124, #136): the game was starting without the Title Update. The launcher now puts it in place before every launch, and the game explains what is missing instead of crashing if you start it another way.
- Crash when saving or when checking for DLC ("Invalid UTF-8") (#107, #115): fixed.
- Crash a few seconds after minimizing the game (Win+D) (#100): fixed.
- "You are not signed into a gamer profile" loop with more than one controller (#140, #114): every controller and the keyboard now control player 1.
- Relic and magic icons showing button prompts (#89, #111): with PlayStation or keyboard prompts, relic and magic icons are no longer replaced by button symbols.
- Audio cutting out: the game now keeps more audio buffered (about 170 ms instead of 43 ms), so hitches no longer drop sound, and a 1-second audio stall after a short device hiccup is gone.
- Lower CPU use: the game's render thread no longer keeps a CPU core busy while waiting for the GPU. On a 4-core / 8-thread CPU the game's CPU use at 60 FPS dropped by about 60%, which should help weaker CPUs (#96).
- Crashes right after "PIPELINES" at startup (#103, #118, #133): if a start doesn't reach the game, the next start skips the shader cache and builds shaders more carefully, so you can get in. Please send a log if it still happens: the cause is now logged.
- DLC folder: files that aren't Dante's Inferno DLC (for example the title update file) are no longer installed as DLC.
- Linux / Steam Deck (Proton) (#132): when the launcher can't start the game, it retries in another way, and otherwise offers to copy the launch options for Steam. Linux and the Steam Deck are still not officially supported or tested.
Better crash reports
- Crashes now write the crash location to the log, and logs include the game files' checksums, where your saves are, and which threads use the most CPU. If something goes wrong, Report a problem in the launcher gives us everything we need.
Notes
- Frame rates above 60 are still experimental: the game logic runs faster than on the console and some fights may misbehave (#98). If something is off, try 60 FPS.
- Trials of Saint Lucia installs, but its arena mode is not playable in the port yet.
- Antivirus: a few machine-learning scanners flag the unsigned installer or launcher. It is a false positive; the source code is public.
Logs and crash reports
Use Report a problem in the launcher, or open an issue and attach the latest log from the logs folder:
https://github.com/florinp93/hells-gate-recomp/issues
Known limitations
- The D-pad prompt still shows the Xbox D-pad with keyboard and mouse.
- Fallback: if the new renderer has a problem on your system, add
renderer_override = "xenos"todantes_inferno.tomlin the install folder to use the previous D3D12 renderer. Remove the line to switch back.
Upgrading
- Installer: run it over your existing install (or use the launcher's update button). Your saves and settings are kept.
- Portable zip: extract over your previous portable folder.

- A Vulkan 1.3 capable GPU with an up-to-date driver
