Hell's Gate Recomp — v0.8.4-beta
New
- No more shader stutter the first time effects appear. The game now ships with a list of every shader and pipeline it uses (recorded over a full playthrough, DLC included) and builds them before the game starts, with a "Preparing shaders" screen. It takes a few seconds on the first launch or after a graphics driver update, and well under a second after that. Anything new is still built during play and remembered for next time.
- Portable version (#95):
DantesInferno-0.8.4-beta-portable.zipneeds no installer and no administrator rights. Extract it anywhere, startDantesInfernoLauncher.exeand press PLAY: the launcher asks for your ISO and imports the game files. - Portable mode (#85): saves and settings can stay in a
userdatafolder next to the game instead of Documents (Settings > Portable mode, orportable.txtnext to the game). Turning it on copies your existing saves over. The zip has it on by default.
Fixes
- Keyboard combos with Shift (#93): with Shift as LT, LT+A/B/X/Y combos now work. A key bound with a modifier (Shift+arrows for the D-pad) still takes priority over the same key's own binding.
- Black screen, then the game closes (#91): when Windows' Controlled Folder Access blocks the Documents folder, the game no longer exits. Saves and settings go to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\dantes_infernoinstead, and a message explains how to allow the game if you want to keep using Documents. - Low frame rate and choppy audio on some systems (#96): the game now asks Windows for 1 ms timer resolution, so short waits in the game don't stretch to 15 ms. If you were affected, please report back whether this helps.
- Faster startup: the old renderer's shader cache is no longer loaded under the new renderer (up to several seconds after a driver update).
Notes
- Frame rates above 60 are marked experimental in the launcher. The game logic runs faster than on the console there, and some fights may misbehave (#98). If something is off, try 60 FPS.
- Antivirus: a few machine-learning scanners flag the unsigned installer as suspicious. It is a false positive; the portable zip is an alternative.
Logs and crash reports
If something crashes or looks wrong, please open an issue and attach the latest log from the logs folder:

Known limitations
- Short sound glitches (a few milliseconds of sound cutting in or repeating) are still being investigated.
- The D-pad prompt still shows the Xbox D-pad with keyboard and mouse.
- Fallback: if the new renderer has a problem on your system, add
renderer_override = "xenos"todantes_inferno.tomlin the install folder to use the previous D3D12 renderer. Remove the line to switch back.
Upgrading
- Installer: run it over your existing install (or use the launcher's update button). Your saves and settings are kept.
- Portable zip: extract over your previous portable folder.
