Hell's Gate Recomp — v0.8.1-beta
Highlights
- Button prompts match your controller. The game shows PlayStation buttons (cross, circle, square, triangle, L1/R1/L2/R2, SHARE or CREATE and OPTIONS) when you play with a DualShock 4 or DualSense, and keyboard keys and mouse buttons when you play with keyboard and mouse. This covers menus, the HUD, in-world prompts, QTEs and the soul-catching minigame. Prompts switch as soon as you change input device.
- Keyboard prompts show your own bindings. If you rebind a key in the launcher or the in-game settings (F4), the prompts show the new key, even mid-game.
- SMAA anti-aliasing smooths jagged edges. It's on by default; untick it in the launcher or press End in game to toggle it.
- Sharper shadows. Shadow maps can be rendered at higher resolution: Original, High (default) or Ultra in the launcher.
Fixes
- Virgil's blue glow is back in cutscenes (#77).
- AMD GPUs: fixed missing water and characters rendering black (#77). AMD GPUs don't support the depth format the renderer used; it now switches to one they do. We couldn't test this on AMD hardware ourselves, so reports are very welcome.
- Lucifer should now render fully in cutscenes. This ports Xenia's fix for texture precision (the same bug was in the previous renderer).
Launcher
- New Button glyphs option: Automatic (follows the controller or keyboard you're using), Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 or Keyboard and mouse.
- New SMAA checkbox and Shadow Quality setting.
Logs and crash reports
If something crashes or looks wrong, please open an issue and attach the latest log from the logs folder:

Known limitations
- Shaders compile the first time each effect appears, which can cause short stutters. Precompiling shaders is planned.
- The D-pad prompt still shows the Xbox D-pad with keyboard and mouse.
- Fallback: if the new renderer has a problem on your system, add
renderer_override = "xenos"todantes_inferno.tomlin the install folder to use the previous D3D12 renderer. Remove the line to switch back.
Upgrading
- Your saves and settings are kept.
