Hell's Gate Recomp — v0.8.0-beta
Highlights
- New native renderer. The game is now drawn by a renderer written for this port (Vulkan) instead of an Xbox 360 GPU emulator. The game's draws, shaders and render targets are reproduced directly, which makes the next round of graphics improvements possible.
- Any resolution. Pick any render resolution, from your monitor's down to below 720p or above 4K. The launcher defaults to your monitor's resolution; type any
WIDTHxHEIGHTto use something else. - Aspect ratios.
- Ultrawide (21:9, 32:9 and anything wider than 16:9) widens the 3D view.
- 4:3 uses the game's own 4:3 mode, with correctly laid-out menus and HUD.
- 16:10 and other shapes between 4:3 and 16:9 show the 16:9 picture with black bars.
- Videos keep their 16:9 shape in all modes.
- High frame rate. Play at 60, 120, 180 or 240 fps, up to your monitor's refresh rate. Gameplay runs at the right speed at every frame rate. Menus, HUD animations, skill videos and the soul-catching minigame keep their original 60 fps timing, so nothing runs fast. In-engine cutscenes stay at their original 30 fps.
Launcher
- New display settings: Resolution, Aspect Ratio (Auto / 4:3 / 16:9 / 21:9 / 32:9) and Frame Rate (multiples of 60, up to your display's refresh rate; default 120).
- Removed options that don't apply to the new renderer: Renderer, Render Accuracy, Anti-Aliasing, Post-Processing, VSync and Dither.
- Logging is always on. The last 10 game logs are kept in the
logsfolder, so a crash report from the previous session is still there. "Detailed logging" adds extra detail when troubleshooting. - Updating no longer asks for the game ISO when the game is already installed.
Logs and crash reports
Each log now starts with your system information (port version, Windows, CPU, GPU and driver, display) and your settings. Every 30 seconds it records the frame rate, 1% lows and the slowest frames, including how many shaders were compiled in each slow frame.
If something crashes or looks wrong, please open an issue and attach the latest log from the logs folder:

Known limitations
- Shaders compile the first time each effect appears, which can cause short stutters. Precompiling shaders is planned.
- The new renderer hasn't had a full playthrough yet. If a scene renders wrong, a log and a screenshot help a lot.
- So far it's only been tested on NVIDIA. AMD and Intel reports are very welcome.
- Fallback: if the new renderer has a problem on your system, add
renderer_override = "xenos"todantes_inferno.tomlin the install folder to use the previous D3D12 renderer. Remove the line to switch back.
Upgrading
- Your saves are unaffected.
- Display settings start from your monitor's resolution and 120 fps (or your refresh rate, if lower). Settings of the old renderers are removed from the config.
- The old
dantes_inferno_native.exeand the previous renderer's shader cache are removed during the update.
Requirements
- Windows 10/11 x64
- A Vulkan 1.3 capable GPU with an up-to-date driver
- Original Dante's Inferno Xbox 360 ISO, and DLC STFS packages if you want the DLC (not provided)
- Visual C++ Redistributables (x64)
