Warning
We released this earlier than intended, sorry for that!
Please give us a few hours to get all the links and downloads up and working!
Hi everyone!
Welcome to Finamp 1.0!
This update has been over 4 years in the making, but we're finally ready to release it.
The highlights of the release are a significant redesign of almost all parts of the UI, and a ton of new features and improvements to existing ones.
But more info below! Have fun reading :)
So, what's new?
Well, everything?
There really isn't much that isn't new, aside from our core values: Finamp should be a great music player for Jellyfin, that just works, and for almost anyone. If you want to stream your music from your Jellyfin server, there should be nothing speaking against Finamp as a solid, well rounded, free and open-source package.
And just to be clear, this update takes the current state of the Finamp Beta (which has received updates for over two years), and pushes it to stable. So if you've been testing Finamp through the beta version until now: thank you, you'll now have the choice to go back to stable without losing any features, or continue staying cutting-edge and helping us catch bugs early!
Here are a few screenshots to give a preview:
And some more:
Aside from that, here's a very cut down list of changes that covers all beta releases to date, sorted by category:

And much more!
If you want the full changelog, you will have to go through the individual release notes on GitHub, starting with the first beta release.
It's simply not possible to fit all of this into these release notes, and we poured a lot of work into making the original beta release notes as complete as possible!
Is this even the same app? What if I liked the old version?
We tried our best to not remove anything that worked on the old version. So any old feature you liked or needed should still be around somewhere.
We also made sure to keep Finamp's overall structure and layout. The main screen is still just a bunch of tabs through which you can browse your music. The home screen is just a tab you can turn off or reorder. Downloads, settings, the player screen, and the queue are still exactly where you expect them to be.
And all your settings and downloads are kept, until you decide to update them.
How do I update?
Just update! There's basically no manual steps you need to take, everything should work the way you'd expect.
However, if you previously had music downloaded to your device, we recommend that you delete and then re-download that music again. Not only does that allow you to leverage new features of Finamp, like transcoded downloads, artist and genre downloads, and automatically downloading newly added media, but it will also ensure that advanced metadata like lyrics, gain information, and specific artist infos are available when you're offline.
Alternatively, you can run a "downloads repair" from the Downloads screen, by clicking the crossed hammer and screwdriver icon in the top-right corner. This will load any missing metadata from the server for offline use. A message saying "Currently repairing" will be shown in the top section; please be patient and wait until it is hidden again. You'll only have to do this once.
However, this won't automatically refresh your downloads in the future (when you add new music to your server that belongs to the same album or artist). So we still recommend you to re-download your music in Finamp from scratch!
Is this more AI Slop?
Nope. Just 4 years and 23 releases of slow but continuous improvements of the beta version, that we now feel confident should work for just about anyone!
Finamp is hand-made by a passionate group of contributors, and many of these improvements were made long before LLMs were a thing.
There's tons of designing, prototyping, engineering, discussing, and testing behind all changes. We really took our time and tried to make the right decisions every step of the way, to make Finamp work for anyone.
How will future releases look like?
We will continue to put out beta releases using the established channels (GitHub, Testflight, and Play Store). However, for any platforms that don't properly support beta versions (F-Droid, Flathub, Microsoft Store / winget, etc.), we will stick to only releasing stable updates, since providing a bug-free, usable experience is more important to us than allowing cutting-edge testing. We will continue to make beta updates available for manual install via .zip, .msix, and .app files though, so you do still have the option to help us test new changes.
The current plan cadence-wise is to automate our (beta) release process more, so that we can push out updates faster, and then have regular (every few weeks) beta updates. Full stable releases will then happen whenever there's a good amount of changes that have been tested to be free of major bugs for a while, and that should be the case every few months.
Of course, if we can manage to have more releases faster, there's nothing stopping us from putting out more changes. But we can't promise anything yet.

Thanks to @flloschy we also have a nice recap of how much changed during this beta, and who contributed to it!

So there you have it! We've finally hit stable. That doesn't mean that the redesign is completely done (there are still some screens that will get at least partial makeovers), nor that the beta is over now (we'll continue using the beta channel for testing)!
But now everyone can finally enjoy all the new features and improvements without worrying about this being a "beta" version.
To everyone who's been part of the beta leading up to this release, and helped test this to make sure everyone else can have a great time with it now: Thank you so much!
And whether you've been using Finamp for years, have been part of the beta, or are new here and want to give the new version a try, as always:
Thank you for using Finamp!
