What's New

  • Meet the new Media Library: screenshots, videos, and editable recording projects now live in one native macOS window. Browse in grid or list view, search and sort captures, inspect file details, and edit, export, or share from one place.
  • Up to 3× faster video exports with Metal-accelerated rendering. Studio moves demanding motion-blur work to the GPU and reuses unchanged screen frames, with a Core Graphics fallback when needed. Actual speedups depend on your Mac, recording, and export settings.
  • More control over video exports: choose 30 or 60 fps and turn motion blur on or off independently. Your choices are remembered and used consistently for Export, Share, and Library rendering.
  • Smoother annotation navigation: rewritten canvas zoom and pan, pointer-anchored pinch zoom, predictable zoom-out speed, proper canvas boundaries, and a new maximum zoom of 1000%.
  • A visible reminder before recording: when Capture Visibility is enabled, a compact banner below the recorder warns that Screendrop windows will be captured and lets you switch it off immediately.
  • Lower editor memory use: bounded image previews, more efficient rendering resources, and better cleanup when editor windows close. Full-resolution source images and editable screenshot data are preserved.
  • Safer saving: screenshot commits coordinate Save, Done, and Upload, preserve existing files during replacement, and restore them if a save fails. Editors stay open when saving fails, and newer edits are no longer incorrectly marked as saved.
  • Better save recovery: screenshot save failures offer Retry or another destination, and opening a save dialog keeps the preview available even if you cancel. Uploading an untouched screenshot now works too.
  • Countdowns you can cancel: cancel the countdown or close the recorder to stop a pending recording. Source selection is disabled while the countdown is running to prevent duplicate starts.
  • Clearer recording setup: source-loading progress and errors now have visible feedback, a retry action, and a link to screen recording permissions when needed.
  • More reliable shortcuts and Cloud setup: rejected shortcut changes keep the previous working binding and explain the error. Automatic upload settings guide you to Cloud setup when configuration is missing.
  • Cleaner handoffs and more consistent UI: recording preview cards dismiss after successful editor, save, export, and share handoffs; failed or cancelled actions remain available for retry. Library cells, inspector actions, settings labels, and editor controls have been polished throughout.
  • Corrected shadow falloff in perspective screenshot layouts.
  • Screendrop is back under the CC0 1.0 Universal license.
