KCD1VR 0.1.69 — sRGB color and OpenXR 1.0 compatibility

This experimental prerelease contains two focused compatibility corrections on top of the 0.1.67 true-stereo baseline.

Changes

  • Correctly declares KCD's gamma-encoded final image as sRGB when submitting both the stereo world and HUD/dialogue layers to OpenXR.
    • This fixes the washed-out headset image reported in 0.1.67.
    • The correction has been confirmed in-headset.
    • OpenXRSrgbSwapchains=0 restores the previous non-sRGB behavior for comparison.
  • Requests OpenXR API 1.0.0 instead of the header's current OpenXR 1.1 version.
    • KCD1VR uses OpenXR 1.0 core functionality plus XR_KHR_D3D11_enable, so this does not remove a used feature.
    • The same correction is applied to KCD1VRResolution.exe, allowing the installer to query 1.0-only runtimes too.
    • The runtime name/version is now written to KCD1VR.log after successful instance creation.

Virtual Desktop testing requested

The OpenXR 1.0 change is intended to fix reports that Virtual Desktop's OpenXR runtime rejects KCD1VR during instance creation. It is standards-based and compiles successfully, but has not been tested against Virtual Desktop by the maintainer. Please report whether the game reaches VR and attach Bin\Win64\KCD1VR.log if it does not.

A successful startup should log lines resembling:

OpenXR runtime: VirtualDesktopXR ...; requested API 1.0.0
Stereo swapchain created: ..., source format=28, OpenXR format=29

Compatibility

  • Confirmed game build: Steam KCD 1.9.7, Direct3D 11.
  • Other game builds remain unvalidated because the native hooks are executable-specific.
  • Motion controllers are not implemented; use keyboard/mouse or a normal gamepad.
  • This remains a true dual-render stereo mod and does not use AER.

Installation

  1. Download and extract KCD1VR-0.1.69-openxr-1.0-compatibility.zip.
  2. Close KCD and ensure no other mod owns Bin\Win64\dinput8.dll.
  3. Start the intended OpenXR runtime and headset.
  4. Run install.ps1 and answer its prompts.
  5. Use +exec KCD1VR.cfg +exec KCD1VR-dlss.cfg in KCD's launch options.
  6. Start the game and press F11 to recenter.

See the packaged README for native-rendering instructions, complete configuration details, troubleshooting, controls, updating, uninstalling, and source-build steps.
