NGX on hybrid machines: the game no longer starts on the integrated GPU
A reporter's 32-bit game failed with NVSDK_NGX_D3D12_Init -> 0xBAD00001 (FeatureNotSupported) through every version of this tool — until he opened Settings ▸ System ▸ Display ▸ Graphics, added the Feeder's host64\dlss5-feed-host64.exe and set it to High performance. It then worked on the first try (#25).
His laptop has an AMD Radeon adapter beside the RTX 4070. Windows had been starting the helper on the integrated GPU, and NGX does not exist there at all — so no install, driver or file layout could ever have fixed it.
Install now writes that preference itself, on any machine with a non-NVIDIA display adapter next to an NVIDIA one:
GpuPreference=2;underHKCU\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\UserGpuPreferences, keyed by the executable's full path — exactly what the Settings app writes.- For the game's exe, and on a 32-bit game also for
host64\dlss5-feed-host64.exe. - The value is a token list, so only the
GpuPreferencetoken is replaced: Auto HDR and a chosen adapter survive. - Remove deletes the value again, but only while it is still exactly what was written — your own choice is never touched.
Also in this build:
- Diagnose names this cause when it sees
0xBAD00001on a machine with more than one GPU vendor, and says whether the preference is already set. --checkprints the machine's adapters and the current preference for that exe.
If you are on a laptop or a desktop with an integrated GPU and DLSS 5 never started, run Install once more from this version.
