v0.2.14 — ping counts again, on a gentler curve
v0.2.13 took ping out of the Link health score entirely. That went too far: 30 ms
and 150 ms should not read the same. Ping is back, as a multiplier that barely
touches a good link and bites as latency climbs.
Expect your number to change again. A dish that read 99 on v0.2.13 at 90 ms
now reads 85. It is still far from the 39 the old linear penalty gave that link.
With no drops or obstruction:
| Ping | Score | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| 20 ms or less | 100 | cyan |
| 30 ms | 99 | cyan |
| 60 ms | 92 | cyan |
| 90 ms | 85 | cyan |
| 100 ms | 80 | cyan |
| 150 ms | 70 | amber |
| 200 ms | 55 | amber |
| 300 ms | 30 | red |
| 500 ms or more | 15 | red |
Ping multiplies with everything else, so 90 ms with 1% drops reads 80. Ping alone
never reaches 0, which still means no internet: a slow link is still a link.
The curve is tuned to how a link feels rather than measured against anything, and
it uses the latest ping reading, so the score moves a few points as ping moves.
