Kept 1.9.0

Kept now works on iOS and Android without setting up a server. Start with notes on your device, and connect to a server later if you want sharing, web access, or syncing across devices.

Features

  • Device-only mobile mode: Use Kept without a server or Kept account. Includes notes, checklists, images, drawings, attachments, labels, and reminders.
  • Expanded offline support: Keep editing downloaded notes when your connection or server is unavailable. Changes save locally and sync when connectivity returns.
  • Complete device backups: Save your library and restore it on an iOS or Android device, with optional reminders to back up.
  • Move local notes to a server: Transfer your entire device library, including images and attachments, when you’re ready to self-host.
  • Pick locations on a map: Pan, pinch to zoom, and choose a pin for reminders or saved places, with custom names, a visible radius, and arrival/departure controls. Thanks to @Danie10 for suggesting this in #54!
  • Hey Siri: Added note/reminder/list creation through Hey Siri prompt on devices running iOS 27.1+ with the Siri beta
  • Improved Android Smart Capture.
  • Added a welcome screen with device-only and server options, plus starter notes for new local libraries.

Fixes

  • Browser Back now saves and closes an open note instead of leaving Kept. Forward reopens it, and failed saves keep your edits open. Thanks to @kurorinchan for reporting this in #108!
  • Fixed notes not saving when accessing Kept over plain HTTP on local networks. Thanks to @robotfactory for reporting this in #92!
  • Fixed the background colour picker being hidden in the full-note editor on foldables.
  • Improved Smart Capture share cards to show the note title and recipients.

Updating

Update the native apps for the new mobile features. Moving device-only notes to a server also requires an updated Kept server.

Offline access in server mode covers notes and media already downloaded. Map imagery requires an internet connection.
