Kept 1.8

Another major release cycle for Kept! This bump to 1.8 includes a lot of new features, revisions, enhancements, and bug fixes. Thanks as always to everyone helping catch errors, suggest improvements, and contribute pull requests.

Features

Foldables and mobile UI

• Added foldable resolution support, including three-column layouts and major UI fixes for expanded devices.
• Added a mobile new-note prompt for checklist, drawing, and image note types.

Android widgets

• Revised Android widgets to support multiple note-creation types and better mirror the Google Keep-style flow.
• Added a new Single note widget type, allowing you to keep one specific note in a widget.
• Added widget filtering by labels or binders in addition to recent and pinned sort types. Thanks @mhessaveva for the suggestion.

MCP and external access

• Added MCP support with the ability to:
  • Search and read notes, including active, archived, and trashed notes.
  • Create and edit plain-text and rich-text notes.
  • Create and edit checklists, including completion, ordering, and indentation.
  • Create drawing and image notes when supplied supported image data.
  • Create labels and binders, and manage pinning, colors, and backgrounds.
  • List, upload, download, and delete attachments and images.
  • Create, edit, snooze, dismiss, and remove reminders.
  • Add and remove collaborators.
  • Archive, trash, restore, and unshare notes.
  • Expose current ownership and collaboration state.
  • MCP is off by default. Locked-note access and permanent deletion remain gated behind explicit settings/config.
  • Added OAuth/MCP support so approved external tools, including external MCP connections, can connect to Kept with scoped, revocable access.

SSO/OIDC

• Added optional SSO login with OpenID Connect, including support for providers like Google, Authentik, and Pocket ID.
• Users keep their normal Kept username/password and can optionally connect an SSO account from Settings.

Notes and editing

• Added nested checklist support up to four levels deep. Thanks @felixschndr for the contribution.
• Added Delete/Backspace keyboard support for desktop note multi-select. Thanks @mathistdn for the contribution.
• Notes created from a label page now automatically get that label. Thanks again @mathistdn.
• Added the ability to delete all checked items. Thanks @mhessaveva for the suggestion.
• Added a user setting to keep fired reminders visible as muted/gray instead of auto-removing them. Default remains auto-removal. Thanks @jimmyjones2 for the suggestion.

Fixes and polish

• Resolved dark mode formatting issues.
• Improved spacing and layout for notes without titles.
• Improved reminder update/delete behavior so stale reminder information stops appearing.
