RPCS3 for Xbox 0.1.35.7 (test build)

A test build that combines every open fix and speed-up PR (#52-#63, #65, #67, #68, #69) on top of 0.1.35.0. Same as 0.1.35.6 (the slide-in pause menu, #68) plus #69: changing the resolution scale in a game no longer crashes. Branch claude/project-thread-7w136b. Nothing here is on main yet: once this build tests OK, the PRs get merged and the release is published.

Menu

  • In a game, View + Menu (the PS button) opens only the app's pause menu (#68). It's a pane that slides in from the left over the dimmed game, with Windows-style icons. Settings opens a page of groups (Video, Audio, Stats overlay, Notifications, Input, Advanced, Debug), and each group has its own page. B goes back one page. RPCS3's own home menu overlay no longer appears on top of or under it. A tap is enough, so there's no need to hold. The pause menu gains Restart game and RPCS3's home menu settings, grouped: Video (resolution scale, VSync, frame limit, anisotropic, output scaling/FSR, sharpening, stretch), Audio (volume, buffering, time stretching), Stats overlay (graphs, position, size, opacity), Notifications, Input, Advanced (SPU/SPURS threads, wake-up delays, sleep timers, vblank, tiling: these can break games) and Debug. They apply right away and are saved. Left out because they don't apply on the Xbox: audio backend, fullscreen, mouse, camera, PS Move and recording. Also from the home menu: Trophies (the game's list, earned / not earned), Friends (RPCN: online status, accept/reject requests, add a friend by name), Take a screenshot (PNG in <USB drive>/RPCS3/screenshots/<title id>/), Save state and Load a save state (saved on the USB drive in RPCS3/savestates/, because LocalState is too small). On the XMB, a tap is still the PS button, and holding for about 1 s opens the pause menu.

Faster

  • XMB plugins compile in the background (#63). After 30 s on the XMB, one low-priority worker compiles the firmware's modules, the XMB's own plugins first. Later visits no longer freeze for 2-12 s per plugin. It runs once per app version/firmware (LocalState/background_compile_done). Turn it off with LocalState/no_background_compile.
  • 4 SPU compile workers instead of 2 (#61). New areas in GTA V and WipEout HD's first race should spend less time slowed down. LocalState/spu_workers holds another count (0 = RPCS3's default of 2).
  • Frame copy to the screen on its own thread (#65). It saves the RSX thread 1.3 ms a frame, or 3-4 ms in busy PS Home scenes. This helps PS Home and Minecraft. LocalState/sync_present_copy brings back the old behavior.
  • Dozen builds primitive-restart pipeline variants up front (#62). This removes 0.5-3.7 s freezes in LittleBigPlanet.

Fixes

  • Changing Resolution scale in a game no longer crashes it (#69). RPCS3 copied between the old and new surfaces with the old size, and the Xbox's D3D12 rejected the whole frame, which showed up as "Out of host memory". Dozen now clips such copies to the image. The first few clipped copies are written to the Mesa log.
  • BLEACH: Soul Resurreccion no longer dies with "Out of host memory" on a logic-op draw. Dozen can't do logic ops on these render targets, so plain copy/clear/no-op are emulated and other ops draw without it (colors of that draw may be off) (#67).
  • Stopping a game no longer waits minutes for a pipeline cache write that hangs on the USB drive (#54).
  • A damaged cached LLVM module is recompiled instead of crashing or running out of memory (#58).
  • If the app is set to App mode (1 GB), a message explains how to switch it to Game, instead of the game crashing at boot (#59).
  • A4R4G4B4 textures get the right colors on Dozen (#60).
  • Dozen skips empty image copies, which could break a whole D3D12 command list (#55).
  • The RSX sampler no longer reads a dead thread's stack after a fatal error (#56).
  • A failed file write names the file in the error (#57).
  • Telemetry: runs closed while suspended are no longer reported as crashes (#52), and RSX hitch times are no longer scrubbed as e-mail addresses (#53).

What to test first

  1. In a game, tap View + Menu: only the app's pause menu shows. Try Resume, Restart game and Stop. Scroll through the settings and change a few (volume, resolution scale, stats overlay position). They should apply on resume. Resolution scale 100 → 50 in Minecraft is the one that crashed .5. Open Trophies and Friends, take a screenshot (check the USB drive), and try Save state then Load a save state. Save states don't work in every game.
  2. XMB stays at 60 fps while the background compile runs (about 30 s after the XMB appears, for a few minutes). This is the main risk: an older version starved the XMB. If it stutters, create LocalState/no_background_compile and tell me.
  3. Start a game from the XMB while that compile is still running. The launch may wait for the module that is compiling.
  4. PS Home plaza and Minecraft: fps compared with 0.1.35.0 (frame copy thread).
  5. GTA V driving into a new area: shorter slowdowns. Watch that PPU-bound games like Portal 2 don't lose fps, because the 2 extra workers share the CPU.
  6. LittleBigPlanet: fewer freezes when new scenes appear.
  7. BLEACH: Soul Resurreccion: gets past the point where it crashed.
  8. Stop a game (pause menu, Stop game): it should go back to the menu within a few seconds.

Install

Install Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.8.appx if it's missing, then RPCS3Xbox-0.1.35.7.appx. It installs over 0.1.35.0 to .6 as an update, so no uninstall is needed.

The rebuilt Dozen driver (vulkan_dzn.dll, needed by #55, #62 and #69) is inside the package.
