Wind Waker Recomp 0.2.0

Save states. F5 saves the whole running game, and a second key loads the latest state: F9 on a Mac
(hold fn on a MacBook keyboard) and F8 on Windows, where F9 shows the frame rate. Both are also buttons
in the options menu. A state is taken at the next moment the game is between frames with no scene change,
door or memory card write under way, so it can take a moment. Saving takes about a fifth of a second and
loading about a tenth. States are kept with your other files: in states/ in the Mac app's data folder,
and in %APPDATA%\BlueWake\states on Windows. A state is meant for the build that made it, and a later
build may refuse it. The memory card is not part of a state, so keep using the game's own save for
anything you want to keep.

Climb any wall (off by default; in the Mac's Gameplay options, and in the Mods tab of the Windows
settings). Link climbs a plain wall the way he climbs ivy, like Breath of the Wild: walk or jump into a steep
wall to grab it. Climbing and hanging use up a stamina wheel drawn beside him (12 seconds by default, 4 to
30 in the menu). When it runs out he lets go, and he can climb again once it has refilled on the ground.
Ivy, ladders, ledges he pulls himself up onto, walls he sidles along and blocks he pushes all behave as in
the game.

Faster graphics on the Mac. The Mac gets Windows 0.1.1's graphics-thread speedups (the pipeline state
worked out from the GX registers is reused for about 96 percent of draws, with cheaper lookups and Smooth
Motion hand-offs). Windows keeps 0.1.1's work for slower CPUs and its native game code.

Mac (Apple Silicon, macOS 15 or later)

WindWakerRecomp-0.2.0-macos-arm64.zip, built from main at b39bd0d (RecompCore 8ab24da).

  • The compiled shader caches now live in the app's data folder, so the first launch after updating
compiles them again (one slower start).
  • Save states from macos.4 or earlier may be refused (the graphics state they hold has changed).

Windows (x64, Windows 10 or 11)

WindWakerRecomp-0.2.0-windows-x64.zip, built from windows-release at 1510ed1, which is this release's
main merged into the Windows line (RecompCore 8ab24da). Unpack it and run BlueWake.exe; saves and
settings from 0.1.x carry over. WindWakerRecomp-0.2.0-windows-source.zip is the source it was built
from.

Both

Same requirements as before: your own disc (GameCube USA, GZLE01 revision 0, as .iso, .gcm or a
compressed image such as .rvz), which the app checks and prepares the first time. Windows also needs a
Direct3D 12 GPU and a CPU with AVX2. No game data is included.

Checked

Windows (i9-13900KF, RTX 5090, windowed):

  • With both new features off, every frame on the test route is 0.1.0's, byte for byte.
  • Save states:
    • Saving does not change a single frame.
    • After a load in the middle of a run, the frames that follow are byte for byte those of the run that
      never loaded.
    • After a load at start-up, the whole machine is byte for byte the same about 16 seconds of play later.
    • F5, F8 and the menu's buttons were all tried in the window.
  • Climbing (Orca's house):
    • Link grabbed the wall, the wheel drained beside him, he let go when it was empty, it refilled about 3
seconds after he landed, and he grabbed the wall again.
    • The menu's switch is saved.
  • Speed is as 0.1.1:
    • Full speed (30 game frames, 60 shown) standing and running on 12 efficiency cores, which stand in
      for a slower CPU.
    • The fresh download prepared an .rvz on its first launch and played at 60.

Mac (Apple Silicon):

  • From the unzipped app, in a test run without a window:
    • The Outset save warped into Orca's house with climbing on: Link grabbed the wall and climbed, the
wheel drained, he let go when it was empty, and it refilled.
    • A state saved in the middle of a run loaded back.
  • The app's launcher on a prepared data folder: a state saved and loaded back.
  • The first windowed launch from the zip was not repeated for 0.2.0. That path is unchanged from macos.5,
which passed a windowed run today with climbing, save and load, the caches in the data folder, and
    59.9 FPS.
