Summary
The panel's built-in temperature sensor reads high because the panel heats itself up, by an amount that varies with its usage. This release adds an optional auto-calibration against a Home Assistant temperature sensor: the panel keeps regulating on its own sensor at all times, and Home Assistant only feeds the correction, so the panel keeps working fully on its own during an outage.
Thanks to @meiser79 for this feature, in their first contribution to the project.
How it works
- New Blueprint input NSPanel Temperature Sensor - Calibration Reference - Entity, accepting a temperature
sensoror aclimateentity (its current temperature). It is empty by default, so nothing changes unless you select a reference. Place the reference in the same room, near the panel but not directly above it. - After a warm-up of 30 minutes from boot, the panel adjusts the existing Temperature Correction once a minute towards the difference between the reference and its own reading, smoothed over about 30 minutes to average out short changes in self-heating.
- The correction only changes when the difference has moved by more than a set amount, which avoids it flipping between two values. Values change in steps of 0.1 °C, or 1 °F on Fahrenheit builds.
- The correction is kept across restarts and during an outage.
- While a reference is selected, manual changes to the Temperature Correction are overwritten by the calibration.
Calibration pauses, keeping the current correction, when:
- the reference is
unavailable, unknownor not a number, or aclimatereference is unavailable, - Home Assistant has been unavailable for longer than
api_stale_grace_period, - the reference has not changed for 2 hours, as some sensors keep reporting their last value long after they stopped working,
- the reference differs from the panel's reading by more than 10 °C (18 °F), which usually means it reports in a different unit. A warning is logged.
The panel's own temperature sensor and its embedded thermostat are ignored if selected as a reference, as both already include the correction.
New substitutions to tune the behaviour: temp_calibration_warmup, temp_calibration_time_constant, temp_calibration_max_age and temp_calibration_hysteresis.
The calibration needs both the updated Blueprint and the updated firmware. With only the Blueprint updated, the reference is ignored.
