v2026.10.7 - feat: Icons as hardware button labels, climate modes from the thermostat capabilities and larger climate mode buttons

Highlights

Icons as hardware button labels

The hardware button labels can now show an icon instead of text, so the buttons can be identified without words. Each hardware button has two new Blueprint inputs: Label type (Text by default, or Icon) and Label icon. When the label type is Icon and no icon is selected, the icon of the state indicator entity is used (or of the controlled entity, when no state indicator entity is set), falling back to its device class and domain icons. The icon follows the label color, including the option to follow the bar color. Existing text labels keep working without changes. The supported icons are listed in the icon cheatsheet. See the "Left/Right Hardware Button - Label" section in docs/blueprint.md. (#194, #573)

Climate modes follow the embedded thermostat

With the climate add-on, the climate page now shows only the HVAC modes the embedded thermostat supports. Thermostats customized with more modes (like auto_mode, dry_action or fan_only_action) get the matching buttons automatically. See the new "Modes" section in docs/addon_climate.md. (#575)

Larger climate mode buttons

The touch areas of the mode buttons on the climate page now cover the space between and around the icons, so taps landing between buttons are no longer ignored. (#572, #574)

Bug fixes

  • Heat/Cool with the dual climate add-on. The Heat/Cool button was shown but rejected by the thermostat, and the default Home preset, configured with that mode, silently stayed in the previous mode. The dual add-on now enables the Heat/Cool mode. (#575)
  • Wake-up sensors after reconnecting to Home Assistant. Since 2026.10.6, a wake-up sensor that was On before a disconnection and turned Off meanwhile was briefly treated as On again on reconnection, which could wake up the display and keep it on until the current state arrived. The wake-up sensors now always follow the states sent by Home Assistant on reconnection. (#570)

Other changes

  • The unused and unreachable home_smpl page was removed from the TFTs. (#522, #563)

Update notes

  • Update the Blueprint, the ESPHome firmware and the TFT together. This Blueprint requires this firmware version, and the firmware requires TFT 22.2, as removing a page changes the page numbering.
  • After the update, the hardware buttons bars and labels are shown only on the home page until the panel syncs with the Blueprint, which happens automatically when it connects to Home Assistant.
