Highlights
- Explore gains AniList, Simkl and Plex catalogs, alongside the existing Trakt, MyAnimeList and Seerr sources
- Six new languages — Turkish, Hungarian, Traditional Chinese, Azerbaijani, Kazakh and Uzbek — with every existing translation brought up to date with the current English text
- Playback speed now goes up to 8x, up from 3x
- Transcoded Plex video behaves like a local file: seeking no longer reloads the stream, the timeline scrubs as you drag, and switching subtitles is instant
- Most single-line Apple TV text fields now use the native tvOS keyboard instead of the in-app overlay keyboard
New features
- Playback speeds up to 8x (#1545)
- Explore: AniList, Simkl and Plex catalogs, each appearing once the matching account is connected
- Jellyfin: backdrops on detail, Explore and TV spotlight screens cycle through all the artwork on the server
- Detail: the director is listed alongside studio and rating
- Detail: episode cards show the file size
- TV: an Appearance setting shows spotlight artwork in the top-right corner instead of filling the screen, off by default (#1628)
- Downloads: removing a synced playlist or collection can also delete the downloads it made, keeping anything another sync or profile still uses (#1656)
- Downloads: Android warns on the Downloads screen when battery or notification settings would stop downloads in the background, with a button straight to the right system screen
- Six new languages: Turkish, Hungarian, Traditional Chinese, Azerbaijani, Kazakh and Uzbek
- Traditional Chinese shows dates and durations in Traditional characters, Plex sends its text back in Traditional Chinese, and a device set to Traditional Chinese picks it automatically
Playback
- Seeking in a transcoded Plex video no longer reloads the stream from the server, and dragging the timeline moves the video as you drag
- Changing subtitles on a transcoded Plex video is an instant local switch instead of a new transcode
- Subtitles keep showing on a transcoded video when you change playback speed (#1622)
- Your subtitle choice carries across episode changes (#1635)
- A track you pick by hand is no longer switched back to the automatic choice moments later
- Playback no longer hangs on the loading spinner when a subtitle file will not load — it starts without subtitles and tells you (#1583)
- Next and previous episode still work on Plex when the server does not return a play queue
- When the next episode cannot be loaded, the player retries and reports it instead of just closing
- Skipping forward at the live edge no longer restarts a live TV stream
- Holding an arrow key no longer adds an extra seek step before focus reaches the timeline
- Leaving a Watch Together session closes the player even when the room cannot be reached
Plex
- Shared servers are no longer shown as offline at startup while the app is still getting access to them
- Explore no longer says an item is missing from your library when that library was scanned with an older Plex agent (#1566)
- An artist page lists their singles, EPs and compilations instead of only full albums (#1577)
- Lyrics stored in .lrc or .txt files next to your music now show instead of "no lyrics available" (#1585)
- Videos with embedded closed captions play again instead of failing with a subtitle error, and their file info opens (#1589)
- Live TV no longer forces closed captions on with no way to turn them off (#1590)
- Search returns shows and music from large libraries instead of only movies (#1598)
- The metadata editor's Advanced settings show the values set on your server instead of blank defaults
Jellyfin
- Music library browsing works again instead of timing out on large libraries (#1557)
- Libraries with no content type set now list their movies and shows
- Mixed libraries no longer list every episode at the top level (#1675)
- Recently Added lists load more as you scroll instead of fetching everything at once (#1611)
- Marking a music video as unwatched sticks instead of flipping back to watched (#1610)
- A server that redirects to HTTPS or to a sub-path on the same address is saved with that address, and a redirect to a different host now asks you to enter the final address
- Signing in works on devices whose name the server would otherwise reject, and when the app cannot read its own version number
- Server addresses that are temporarily unreachable are kept when you save a connection instead of being dropped
Android
- Servers behind a certificate authority you installed on the device now connect
- Dolby Vision video keeps playing correctly after you seek
- A video that was already playing keeps going in the same player when the device's video decoder fails, instead of switching to the backup player (#1540)
- An episode that fails to start shows the error and leaves the player, instead of sitting on a black screen while your server still counts it as playing (#1673)
- Pressing play while another app is using the sound no longer fails — playback starts once that app is done
- Subtitles that stayed invisible on some videos now show up (#1681)
Apple TV
- Most single-line text fields use the native tvOS keyboard instead of the in-app overlay keyboard; multi-line fields and a few settings fields keep the overlay
Windows
- Taps and drags over the video reach the app instead of being swallowed
- Display refresh rate and HDR are restored after playback even when the first attempt fails
TV interface
- Selecting an episode in a shelf on a detail page starts playback (#1608)
- The home screen starts on Continue Watching even when that row loads after the screen appears, and stays where you moved it if you already navigated (#1602)
- The spotlight picks up updated details when a shelf reloads
- Holding Select on the on-screen keyboard or PIN pad types one character instead of repeating
- Moving between cards and shelves is smoother
- Long Live TV guides scroll more smoothly
- The Live TV guide no longer flashes the full channel lineup and moves your cursor while favorites refresh
Downloads
- Running out of space stops downloads with a "storage full" message and marks every stopped download as failed, not just the one that hit the limit — and the app still opens afterwards
- Completed downloads no longer sit at "downloading 0%" after a reconnect
- Removing a synced playlist or collection no longer deletes episodes that a show or season sync still covers
Libraries and browsing
- Switching libraries or tabs quickly no longer lets the previous library's results or focus land in the new one
- Filters that fail to load show an error you can retry instead of an empty list
- A playlist reorder or removal that fails puts the list back the way it was
- The watchlist button on an Explore item can be pressed straight away instead of being greyed out while the app checks your watchlist
- When a server sends data the app cannot read, your last working copy is kept for offline viewing instead of being overwritten
Music
- The player's "Playing from" line follows the album of the track that is playing, and shows its year (#1600)
- Starting playback twice in quick succession no longer lets the first, slower album win, and "Play next" no longer appends to a queue you already replaced
- Collections and playlists in music libraries show as square cards instead of tall posters
Artwork
- Clear logos keep their aspect ratio instead of being stretched
- The detail page backdrop is no longer cropped on wide windows (#1588)
- Cast photos are sharp instead of blurry (#1591)
Settings and navigation
- Settings rows use the same compact height and text size as lists everywhere else in the app
- "Clear Cache" is now "Clear Image Cache" and says it only clears artwork and thumbnails
- On phones, closing Manage Libraries no longer closes Settings with it
- Back closes an open sheet on phones and tablets instead of leaving it stuck open
- Screen readers no longer read the screen behind an open sheet
- Settings you export after restarting the app keep your tracker library filters, so restoring them no longer scrobbles libraries you had excluded
- With Video Player Navigation on, Escape steps back through the player instead of dropping out of fullscreen
- On desktop, the second Back press on the home screen closes Plezy as the prompt says (#1582)
