ORBIT 0.10.0 and 0.10.B
MIDI clock out, quiet drum editing for live sets, a quicker controller
toggle, and Bluetooth that starts on every FM-1.
| Build | Package | Version shown |
|---|---|---|
| Default | orbit.fwsc
| ORBIT 0.10.0
|
| Bluetooth MIDI | orbit-ble.fwsc
| ORBIT 0.10.B
|
Both keep the install identity FM-1_900. The changes below apply to both
builds unless a section says otherwise. Bluetooth notes are in the
0.10.B notes.

MIDI clock out: GLO > SYSTEM > SYNC = OUT
SYNC has a fourth value. OUT runs on ORBIT's own tempo and sends it:
- 24 MIDI clock pulses per beat while playing;
- START when you press PLAY and STOP when playback stops;
- tempo changes take effect on the next pulse.
Clock goes to USB MIDI, and to Bluetooth MIDI as well in 0.10.B. A DAW,
drum machine or app set to external sync now follows ORBIT's PLAY and
tempo. Swing stays in ORBIT's pattern and isn't added to the clock.
The other values work as before. INT uses the internal clock and sends
nothing. USB and TRS follow an incoming clock and START/CONTINUE/STOP;
Bluetooth MIDI input arrives on the USB route, so use USB to follow a
Bluetooth clock. ORBIT doesn't forward an incoming clock, the FM-1 has no
TRS MIDI output, and CONTINUE and Song Position aren't sent.
Drum GRID editing that stays quiet
Drawing a beat in front of an audience shouldn't play every hit as you place
it. On the drum track's GRID page:
- White keys add or remove the selected voice's hits silently. A new
hit sounds only when the playhead reaches it, so the groove isn't broken
while you edit. - KNOB 1 (voice) and KNOB 2 (step cursor) move silently too.
- Black keys still select a voice and let you hear it.
- With REC on while playing, a black key also records its voice at
the moment you hit it, like a live drum key. Pick a sound, check it, and
play it straight into the pattern. White keys keep toggling steps quietly.
KNOB 1 can reach all 16 voices, but only 11 have black keys. Use KIT to
play the other five live.
MIDI controller mode: tap OCT- + OCT+
Controller mode now toggles with one left-hand gesture: tap OCT- and
OCT+ together (press both at once and let go within about half a
second, with no other button or key). This replaces the 2-second ENV + LFO
hold, and MENU > AUDIO > CONTROLLER still works.
Longer holds keep their old jobs. The 5-second update-mode hold, ghost/hard
accents on the drum track and two separate octave presses don't toggle the
mode. Tapping both also resets the octave to 0, as it always has.
Storage
ORP8 projects, OPB3 USER banks, the step_t layout and the 104-byte
settings object are unchanged. SYNC = OUT uses a spare value of the
existing setting. Older firmware reads it as INT.
Validation
The host suite, target builds and budgets, native preview and web tests
were rerun for this release; new host tests cover the clock output, the
controller tap, quiet GRID editing and black-key recording. Development
builds with these changes were installed on an FM-1, where the device
owner confirmed that they work, including clock out. Details and package
hashes are in the
validation record.
Clock jitter and drift weren't measured with instruments.
Earlier changes are in the 0.9.0 notes.
