This is a fairly large release and contains a number of new features.
- Rewritten sound and music support. Music and sound files from the WAD are used rather than external sound and music files. MUS and MIDI type 0 and 1 are supported.
- GBA Roms are patchable now. You don’t need to download or rebuild the code to make a custom ROM. Just run GbaWadUtil, select your game WAD and any PWADS and hit the build button.
- DeHackEd support. GbaWadUtil will apply DEH files from the WAD and any others you select. Supports up to version 6. Doesn’t do the fancy BEX stuff though!
- Full resolution floors and ceilings.
- Depth lighting restored. I do still wonder if this makes the game a little dark…
- Colormaps and pallets are loaded from the WAD now so custom pallets won’t break things.
- Across the board performance improvements. About 10% faster than 2.7, but the poor performing areas get more. I also fixed the stutter from the Super Shotgun and the framerate sags when firing the chaingun and plasma rifle.
- Memory savings. Should find that more WADs will load now. All of Doom, Doom2, Plutonia and TNT should be fine.
- Fixed some stack crashes. The stack should stay comfortably below 2kb now.
- Fixed some issues with lifts and moving ceilings.
- Builds cleanly with GCC 16.2 and C23.
