Full changelog

Added

  • A PC asks the Ovis account service for a relay pass while it uses Ovis's own relays, keeps it
across restarts and renews it, and says in its relay status when it has none.
    (#3270)
  • ovis.sh and the README offer the desktop app: on a Mac the download button gets its dmg (Apple
silicon, with the Intel build one line below), and on Linux the .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, with
the AppImage below it for other distributions; on Windows the desktop app, with a line on
getting past SmartScreen (the app is not code-signed yet). The install command stays a second way.
    (#2796)
  • The first-run welcome offers the account sign-in under its two choices: Continue with GitHub
or Google (only what the account service offers, nothing when it is off), Not now to
skip it, and once signed in on a new PC, Add this PC to my account.
    (#3247)

Changed

  • Settings → Devices and PCs → Add a connection is three tabs, as herdr's Add a machine: SSH lists the
PCs saved in herdr, the hosts of the PC's ssh config and the other PCs of its Tailscale login, and
Add opens the PC setup with the address filled in; Phones and devices holds the Tailscale address,
the pairing code and Portal; Ovis relay signs in to the Ovis account. A Tailscale PC is added over
    SSH, never through the relay.
    (#3258)
  • The devices list drops its "Connected to this PC" title; what is not connected now is dimmed, and a
PC added here that is not connected can be removed from its row.
    (#3258)
  • The line saying this PC takes same-Wi-Fi direct connections from relay-paired devices can be
dismissed; it comes back when the address changes or direct is turned off and on again, and
Settings, Devices and PCs still shows it. The warning for a server open to the network with no
token and nothing paired still cannot be dismissed.
    (#3248)
  • ovis.sh and the README say less: a one-line pitch, short captions under the screenshots and
cards, one row of quotes, and a shorter README intro.
    (#2796)

Removed

  • Add a connection no longer pairs through the relay without the Ovis account, takes a code from
another PC, or adds Tailscale PCs through the relay. PCs added that way before keep working.
    (#3258)

Fixed

  • Add a connection → SSH tells a Tailscale PC that runs an Ovis older than 0.5 to update it there,
    instead of offering Add.
    (#3279)
  • The SSH list reads each file an Include names in the Host block the Include is in, and leaves
out a host that a negated pattern on its own Host line excludes, as ssh does.
    (#3279)
  • The Ovis relay tab offers the relay's own pairing also while the account service answers with a
    server error.
    (#3279)
  • On Android, a tap on a terminal key-bar key (arrows, Esc, Tab, Ctrl) no longer brings back a
    keyboard that Back put away.
    (#3297 reported by @Shunamxiao)
  • A Claude pane's chat no longer shows "Conversation unavailable", or an empty new chat, when a
Claude started inside the pane (claude -p from a hook or a script) took herdr's report of the
pane's session: the chat reads the session the pane's own Claude names in its PID record.
    (#3264 by @vibewriter-hand)
  • A new Codex pane whose model comes from a custom model provider (a proxy names it in Codex's
footer, such as gpt-6.1-terra high) opens on an empty new chat before its first message, not
    on "Conversation unavailable".
    (#3265 by @vibewriter-hand)
  • A push notification for a pane named by its working directory shows the folder (api), as the
sidebar and in-app alerts do, instead of the whole path.
    (#3291)
  • Setting up the relay pass never keeps Add this PC from its pairing wait, and link on a PC with no
screen works when the Ovis relay asks for a pass.
    (#3272)
  • Add this PC no longer waits on the relay pass setup when that setup does not answer.
    (#3278)
  • In Safari, the sidebar's workspace list shows its workspaces again instead of a single row with a
    scrollbar beside it.
    (#3295 reported by @mxst4 and @odfalik, following #3255 by @Haeminway1 and #3218 by @odfalik)
  • On a phone, a swipe begun on a table, a code block or a formula in an opened file scrolls the
file again, instead of doing nothing.
    (#3294 reported by @obriedan)
  • On ovis.sh in Safari or Firefox, which cannot tell the computer's CPU, the download button now
names the build it gives ("Download for Mac (Apple silicon)", "Download for Linux (x64)"), so an
Intel Mac or arm64 Linux visitor picks the right build from the line below it.
    (#3292)
  • PCs on your Tailscale no longer fails with "Unknown relay action" for a PC that runs an Ovis
older than 0.5: that PC is listed with a hint to update it, its Add PC button stays off, and a
PC that runs both an older and a current Ovis is added through the current one. Every refusal
is now said in plain words in the app's language.
    (#3253)
  • The terminal's cursor moves again with the arrow keys and after a typed space: since 0.5.0 it
stayed where the last typed letter left it until the next letter, although the program's cursor
    had moved.
    (#3293 reported by @sommio and @mxst4)

Maintenance

  • A Mac desktop release build no longer fails when Apple's ticket service drops the connection
while the app or dmg is stapled: it tries again, waiting up to 8 minutes in all, and only on
    that error.
    (#3250)
  • The relay can ask PCs for a relay pass signed by the Ovis account service before it lets them in.
It is off unless the relay's operator turns it on, and phones never need one.
    (#3254)
