PS5 Library 0.7.30

Note

Rest Mode still works only on internal storage; USB support is in progress (unchanged from 0.7.29).

Changes

  • A catalog that doesn't answer no longer holds up the others (#17). Catalogs were read one after another, and a server that accepted the connection but sent nothing kept the reader waiting for two minutes. With three such catalogs, the ones that worked waited more than six minutes, and Settings → Catalogs said "Loading…" all that time. Catalogs are now read side by side, up to six at once, so a working catalog loads within seconds whatever the others do.
  • A stalled catalog is given up on in 30 seconds. Instead of a fixed two-minute limit, a catalog server that sends nothing (or less than 1 KB/s) for 30 seconds is stopped. A large catalog on a slow connection that keeps arriving may take up to ten minutes. The message says where it stopped: "the server did not accept a connection within 5 seconds", "the server accepted the connection but sent nothing for 30 seconds", or "the transfer was too slow" instead of "Timeout was reached".
  • A catalog that keeps failing is tried less often. It is tried again after 2, 5 and 10 minutes, then every 30 minutes, until it answers. Refresh in Settings → Catalogs tries every catalog at once. Its games stay in the Store meanwhile.
  • Settings → Catalogs says what each catalog is doing. "Reading the catalog…", "814 items · updated 10 min ago · checking for changes…", or for one that doesn't answer: the reason, how many of its items stay in the Store, and when it is tried next. The page refreshes every few seconds while a catalog is being read.
  • The last good read survives a restart. After the library starts, a catalog shows when it was last read instead of "Loading…" until it has been read again.
  • Stopping or updating the library no longer waits for a catalog that stalls: its read is cancelled.

Validation and limitations

Host build, integration tests (three catalogs that accept the connection and never answer, listed before one that works: the working one loaded at once, the stalled ones failed after the test's 2-second limit with the new message and were scheduled two minutes later, the last good read and the failures were still there after a restart, and stopping the library didn't wait for them) and UI checks passed. On a PS5 (firmware 13.60): a test catalog served from a computer on the local network answered once and then stalled; after Refresh the console's three real catalogs were read in 1.7, 3.8 and 6.3 seconds while the test catalog was still waiting, and the test catalog was reported as "the server accepted the connection but sent nothing for 30 seconds" after 31.8 seconds. The saved state of each catalog was checked on the console, and the test catalog was removed afterwards. The catalogs from #17 themselves weren't tried; their addresses aren't in the report. After publishing, Settings → Updates on that console installed this release from GitHub and started it in 8.5 seconds; right after the restart its catalogs showed when they were last read while they were being checked again, not "Loading…".

Load the new ELF; it replaces the running version and keeps your catalogs and settings. A download in progress pauses; Resume continues it.

Thanks to @Dantesinferno11 for the report (#17).
