New: open Pencil .pen files

File → Open, drag and drop and desigma file.pen now import Pencil files: frames and auto layout, shapes, paths and text, fills and gradients, strokes, shadows and blurs, components with instance overrides, and themes as variable modes. Anything that can't come across (scripts, shaders, icons, .lib.pen imports) is listed when the file opens. Saving goes to .desigma. desigma is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pencil. (#11)

Faster canvas on big files

Large imported files are much smoother on the GPU canvas: a fit-to-screen frame on a 9,000-layer file went from seconds to milliseconds, thanks to batched GPU uploads and cached shadows. Deeply nested files no longer overflow the stack on Windows, and autosave skips the write when nothing changed. Thanks @vaiibhavkale (#21).

Better .fig import

Six fixes from @AJIADb9, each checked against Figma's REST output for real files (#13–#18):

  • Files with certain 64-bit values now import instead of failing.
  • Correct ids for copies inside nested instances and library components.
  • Component property values (instance swap, boolean, text) from newer files.
  • Swapped nested instances take the new component's name and keep their scale.
  • Resize-to-fit frames come in as groups.

Fixes

  • Linux: double-clicking a text layer or pressing Ctrl+A while editing no longer erases the text (KDE/IBus/fcitx sent an empty input-method event). (#19, #20)
  • Network tests no longer trigger Windows Firewall prompts.

Update from inside the app: Help → Check for updates… → Update now (from alpha.12 onwards).

Installing

Download the file for your platform below. These builds are not code-signed yet, so the first launch shows a warning:

  • macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel): download desigma-<version>-macos.dmg, open it and drag desigma to Applications. The first time, open it from Applications, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/desigma.app.
  • Windows (recommended): run desigma-<version>-x86_64-windows-setup.exe. It installs for your user without an admin prompt, adds a Start Menu entry and can associate .desigma files. In the SmartScreen dialog, click More info → Run anyway.
  • Windows (portable): unzip desigma-<version>-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.zip and run desigma.exe; same SmartScreen steps.
  • Linux: unpack desigma-<version>-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu.tar.gz, then run ./install.sh (no sudo) or just ./desigma.

Full instructions: docs/install.md. Check downloads against SHA256SUMS.
