  • The left analog stick now moves the pointer in the menus, on every controller, like a mouse. It no longer also steps through the buttons; the D-pad still does
  • A Wiimote with anything plugged into it is now always vertical in the menus, and its buttons and IR pointer work alongside the extension (a Nunchuk on Wii and a Classic Controller on both Wii and Wii U previously lost them)
  • Redesigned Button Mappings screen. One screen now replaces the separate controller and button screens, showing each button on a drawing of the controller and letting you choose a button by pressing it or from a list.
  • Redesigned Saves screen. The Save, Load and Delete buttons are now a single Saves button. Snapshots fill a grid, with the game's Cartridge Save (shown only for games that have one) in its own card beneath. Choosing a card opens a small popover of what can be done with it; the save file's backups are listed from its popover. The Auto Load, Auto Save and Append Auto settings are replaced by a single Save Mode: Snapshot (the default), Cartridge Save, or Manual.
  • Redesigned in-game menu. Button Mappings and Match Wii Controls (Match GC Controls on GameCube) have moved from Game Settings to the in-game menu's front page. Match Wii Controls now switches between ON and OFF right where it is when clicked
  • Renamed to match what they are. SRAM and RAM saves are now called Cartridge Saves, and save states are called Snapshots, throughout the menus, messages and documentation
  • Files are named the same way for everyone. A Snapshot's auto slot is always <game> Auto.sgm, and a Cartridge Save is always <game>.sav, never with Auto on the end. Files named the old way are renamed the next time the game is opened (if both exist, the newer is kept as the Cartridge Save and the other as a backup)
  • Removed the Auto Load, Auto Save and Append Auto to .SAV Files settings
