Table Tennis PC Recompilation v1.0.3 — ISO Startup Fix
Fix for installed game failing to start
An existing ISO could be rejected with --game_data_root does not exist, even after a successful installation. The stock ReXGlue v0.10.0 application expects a directory. The previous developer test used a locally modified SDK application source, which hid this missing integration.
This release includes the BSD-licensed ISO application adapter in the source payload and compiles it instead of the directory-only SDK source. Your ISO is mounted read-only before loading the game. The SDK installation itself is not modified.
Already installed? Repair in the same folder
- Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe from this release and open it.
- Choose your supported retail Table Tennis ISO and the same folder used for the existing installation (default
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TableTennisPC). - Click Install / Recheck and wait for the rebuild to finish, then click Play.
You do not need to delete your installation or manually install the components again. Existing graphics settings are retained. Keep the ISO available after installation and use tabletennis_launcher.exe to start the game.
Additional fixes: explicit ISO launch arguments, saved paths containing =, uppercase .ISO filenames, and clearer guidance when a disc really is missing.
PC recompilation highlights
The Xbox 360 classic, recompiled to native Windows x64 with DirectX 12, plus settings and convenience improvements for PC players:
- Up to 4K / Ultra HD: choose 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K output. The 1440p and 4K presets raise internal 3D rendering to 2× and 3× per axis respectively.
- High-refresh options: choose 60, 120, 144 or 240 FPS targets, or Unlocked for uncapped presentation. The high-refresh modes enable the variable-refresh presentation path for compatible setups.
- Image filters and smoother edges: optional AMD FidelityFX FSR, CAS sharpening, FXAA and FXAA Extreme, with Bilinear and AA Off options too.
- Your display, your settings: fullscreen/windowed mode and a graphical launcher that remembers resolution, framerate and filter choices.
- Useful PC shortcuts: toggle the live FPS/frame-time overlay with F10, and exit to Windows with Escape.
- Gamepad-friendly startup: controller detection before the intro; press a gamepad button to stop the movie immediately and continue to the menu after loading.
- A working offline main menu: Xbox Live removed, correct Options/Extras navigation, and a large antialiased loading message during the transition.
Actual FPS depends on hardware, scene and settings. The 1080p preset uses 1× internal rendering with the selected presentation filter. See the full PC enhancements and resolution table.
For players
Download Install-Table-Tennis.exe below. You do not need the source ZIP or to install Python and compilers manually.
- Open the installer and choose your own supported retail Table Tennis ISO.
- Allow the required components and click Install. Approve the Windows administrator prompt if Microsoft components need to be installed.
- Wait for Ready to play, then click Play. A desktop shortcut is created when Windows permits it.
First setup requires internet, several GB of free space, and time to download/build components. The ISO stays read-only and remains necessary during play. This supports the unmodified USA/Europe Xbox 360 retail release, Title ID 545407DF.
Validation and preview status
- Reproduced the original error using the SDK's unmodified directory-only application source and an existing supported ISO.
- Fixed build mounted the same ISO and ran the intro for 23 seconds.
- Runtime regression passed with the ISO outside the installation folder, through both explicit arguments and saved settings, launched from a different working directory.
- All nine synthetic tests plus the opt-in runtime regression passed.
- The embedded installer payload completed a repair rebuild (94 C++ steps plus launcher compilation) using cached components and a supplied SDK. The rebuilt game's actual launcher also passed the saved
=path and uppercase.ISOstartup check. The GUI Install button was not exercised in this repair test.
First-time Microsoft component installation and the previously blocked SDK-download path remain unverified on a clean Windows PC. This remains a preview. The installer is not code-signed and does not change Windows security settings.
The public EXE is our installer, not the game. It contains exactly 32 reviewed source files, including the BSD-licensed application adapter. No ISO, retail archive, XEX, generated game functions or prebuilt game executable is distributed. Game material is prepared locally from your own supported USA/Europe retail ISO. Local generation is not a legal guarantee.
Table-Tennis-Local-Build-v1.0.3.zip is optional source for developers. Players only need the installer. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both downloads.
