No longer a fork of PSXS5

  • SwanStationPS5 is no longer a fork of PSXS5. PSXS5 draws its interface on the CPU, with SDL2's software renderer into a canvas that Vulkan only displays. SwanStationPS5 is now 100% Vulkan: the game's picture and the whole interface are drawn by the GPU. The two frontends no longer line up, so they can't be merged or swapped for one another.
  • PSXS5 is still credited for what SwanStationPS5 started from. Games and BIOS folders named after PSXS5 are still read.

3D jewel cases on the shelf

  • The shelf now shows every game as a 3D PlayStation jewel case: the game's cover sits behind the clear lid, the spine is ribbed, and the edges carry the SwanStationPS5 name. The case is reflected on the table and catches a glare from a light point. The cases beside the chosen one turn towards it and overlap, one behind another.
  • The right stick turns the chosen case sideways (up to 80°) and tilts it up or down, one way at a time. Its back never shows, whatever you do with the sticks. The right stick is ignored while the left stick or the D-pad is in use.
  • Moving left or right gives the case a small knock. At the first or last game, or with a single game, there is no knock: the controller vibrates once instead (it respects the Vibration setting).
  • Games without a cover show a new picture (nocover2.png), kept in proportion, in the case, the CD and the other layouts.

Launching a game

  • The case opens its lid, and the CD spins up on its tray with the game's cover in its printed ring while the game loads. The inside of the case is lit like matte paper, and the back of the lid is dark blue with SwanStationPS5® and "By AngelXex".
  • "Loading your game..." shows from the moment the case opens. The 3D cases no longer fade to black: the CD spins in the light until the game starts, and the case itself doesn't come closer.

Interface and controls

  • "Interface on the GPU (Vulkan)" is gone from Settings > System > SwanStationPS5. The interface always uses Vulkan, whatever a settings file or the no_vulkan file says. The Output resolution row is no longer locked.
  • Only player 1's controller moves through the app (shelf, Settings, dialogs); the other controllers are just for playing. If player 1's isn't connected, the first one that is takes over.

Art and credits

  • New launch background, centred, and a new start-up sound for the title.
  • Credit to sodaraptor for the jewel case model and textures (Hypnagogia Boundless Dreams Jewel Case, CC-BY 4.0), in the README and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.
