Install
- Download
beetle-adventure-racing-recomp-v0.3.0-alpha-windows-x64.zipand extract it anywhere
(keep theassetsfolder next to the executable). - Run
beetle-adventure-racing-recomp.exe. On first launch choose Load ROM; afterwards it starts
straight from Start Game.
Settings, key bindings, Controller Pak saves and the cached ROM live in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\beetle-adventure-racing-recomp.
What's new
- Rumble works. The Rumble Pak is served on the same slot as the Controller Pak, so saving and
rumble work together, and the game's pulsed motor now reaches the pad with the right strength
(General → Rumble Strength). - Widescreen HUD: the speedometer stays on the left on every course, and many HUD elements are
anchored correctly out of the box. - Pause screen and course overview: the dark backdrop covers the whole widened frame, without the
flickering band at the bottom while the camera orbits the car. - Main menu in widescreen: the film-strip menus fill the screen, and the scrolling transition between
pages stays widescreen instead of dropping to 4:3. - Track Select no longer flickers beside the track preview.
Known issues
- The destination menu page can flash for one frame just before a menu transition starts.
- An intermittent crash at startup (
_uvScDoneAud) has been seen before and not reproduced. If the game
fails to start, try again. - A Linux build is in progress but not released: it compiles, but crashes during boot under WSL.
Not tested
- Linux, macOS.
- Two-player and Beetle Battle, and most courses beyond a few playtested ones.
