Experimental: third test build for the SenseCAP MeshPager X2: GPS, colours, sound, clock, compass, Battery saver. Please send a log.
Cairn 124 for the SenseCAP MeshPager X2 -- test build 3 (2026-10-26)
Thank you for testing. This build adds most of what the X2 can do, checked against how Seeed's own demo
firmware starts the hardware:
- GPS should work now. The earlier builds held the GPS chip in reset by mistake.
- The colours should be right now (red and blue may have been swapped).
- Sound: message tones, the volume, the audio player (music on the microSD card) and the recorder.
- The real-time clock keeps the time while the X2 is off, so the clock is right as soon as it starts.
- Temperature and humidity (the X2's own sensor) on the Home screen.
- Battery saver (Settings > System): the X2 sleeps between messages while the screen is dark.
- Lift to wake (Settings > Hardware > Lock, off at first): picking the X2 up lights the screen.
- A compass: standing still, the map's arrow turns with you, the GPS page shows a HEADING, and the
Bluetooth finder knows which way you face. It calibrates itself: the first time, turn the X2 slowly
round once or twice, flat in your hand.
- The power key: tap locks, double tap unlocks, hold asks "Power off?" (as test build 2).
It replaces the firmware you have now, as before.
FLASH IT (Chrome or Edge on a computer)
1. Open https://espressif.github.io/esptool-js/
2. Plug the X2 in with a USB-C data cable. Click Connect and pick its port.
No port, or it won't connect: unplug it, hold the Back key (the right orange key), plug it back in,
let go, then Connect again.
3. Flash Address 0x0, file MeshCore-MeshPagerX2-Cairn124-2026-10-26-test3-full.bin, then Program.
4. When it says done, press Disconnect, unplug the X2 and plug it back in.
WHAT TO TRY (with the console open, as before: 115200 baud, from power-up)
1. The screen: right way up, colours right (does the accent look the same as in the Cairn app)?
Does scrolling look clean (no flicker or speckles)?
2. Sound: let a message arrive. Change the volume (quick panel). Record a few seconds (the Recorder)
and play it back.
3. GPS: outside, Settings > GNSS > GPS on. Does it get a fix within a few minutes?
4. Compass (outside or away from metal): open the GPS page, hold the X2 flat, turn slowly round once.
Then point the top of the X2 north (a phone's compass helps) and note the HEADING it shows; then
east, south and west. The console prints "X2MAG" lines while you do this: please include them.
5. Lift to wake: turn it on in Settings > Hardware > Lock, let the screen go dark, put the X2 down for a few
seconds, then pick it up.
6. Battery saver: turn it on in Settings > System, turn Bluetooth off, unplug USB, and leave the X2 for a
while. Do messages still arrive?
7. The clock: set the time (GPS or the app), power the X2 off with the power key (hold, Yes), wait a
minute, power it on. Is the time right at once? The console's "X2BOOT rtc" line says what it found.
8. Copy everything in the console and send it, saying what happened at each step.
The first lines after power-up ("X2BOOT ...") list what answered: the expander, the screen, the radio,
the speaker and mic chips, the clock and the motion sensors. Those lines alone help a lot.
NOT IN THIS BUILD YET
The air pressure sensor, the USB-C power-delivery chip, the Band scan / Spectrum pages.

This is an experimental pre-release: the online updater never offers it, and a device on it is never
offered an update. What experimental builds are: https://github.com/cvhviz/Cairn/blob/main/docs/experimental.md
