Experimental: second test build for the SenseCAP MeshPager X2. Fixes from the first tester's log; please send a log.
Cairn 124 for the SenseCAP MeshPager X2 -- test build 2 (2026-10-26)
Thank you for the first log: the buttons, sending and receiving all worked. This build fixes what it
found:
- The screen was upside down. It is turned the right way up.
- The power key was read backwards (pressed when it wasn't). That made the X2 start in a USB rescue
mode every time, made a tap lock it, and made a hold do nothing. It now works like a phone's:
tap lock (the screen goes dark a moment later)
double tap unlock (on the lock screen), or a new message
hold "Power off?" with No and Yes
You can change what a tap, double tap and hold do in Settings > Buttons.
- The microSD slot was checked before the card had power, so it could not tell whether a card was in.
It replaces the firmware you have now, as the first build did.
FLASH IT (Chrome or Edge on a computer)
1. Open https://espressif.github.io/esptool-js/
2. Plug the X2 in with a USB-C data cable. Click Connect and pick its port.
No port, or it won't connect: unplug it, hold the Back key (the right orange key), plug it back in,
let go, then Connect again.
3. Flash Address 0x0, file MeshCore-MeshPagerX2-Cairn124-2026-10-26-test2-full.bin, then Program.
4. When it says done, press Disconnect, unplug the X2 and plug it back in.
WHAT TO TRY (with the console open, as last time: 115200 baud, from power-up)
1. Is the screen the right way up now?
2. The power key: tap it (locks), double tap it (unlocks). Each press prints an "X2KEY GPIO9" line.
3. Hold the power key about a second: "Power off?" should appear. Choose No.
4. Unplug USB. Does the X2 stay on with the battery alone?
5. Still on battery, hold the power key, choose Yes. Does it switch off? Then press the power key
again: does it come back on?
6. Plug USB back in. Put a microSD card in, wait 5 seconds, take it out. The log prints "L2SD" lines.
7. Take it outside for a few minutes with GPS on (Settings > Location). Does it get a position?
8. Copy everything in the console and send it, saying what happened at each step.
The power key's actions start from these defaults once, even if you changed them in the first build.
NOT IN THIS BUILD YET
The speaker and microphone, the motion / compass / pressure sensors, the RTC chip (the time comes
from GPS or the phone), Battery saver's deep sleep, and the Band scan / Spectrum pages.
TWO MORE CHECKS, IF YOU HAVE TIME
A. On USB, with the console open: hold the power key for about 1, 3, 8 and then 12 seconds (choose No
each time "Power off?" appears). Does the X2 ever restart by itself while you hold it? If it does,
say after how long (a restart prints the "ESP-ROM" lines again).
B. Unplug USB: does the charging symbol in the status bar go away? (The console can't show this one,
because unplugging stops it.)

This is an experimental pre-release: the online updater never offers it, and a device on it is never
offered an update. What experimental builds are: https://github.com/cvhviz/Cairn/blob/main/docs/experimental.md
