New Features
Single-file re-encoding (#20)
New optional CONVERT_SINGLE_FILES environment variable. When set to "true", books that are already a single file (mp3 or m4b) but sit at a higher bitrate than you want are re-encoded:
- A single-file book is re-encoded when its bitrate is more than 10% above the target (
BITRATE_CAPif set, otherwiseBITRATE) - Multi-file books always take priority — single-file re-encodes only use leftover conversion slots
- Success is verified by checking that the resulting bitrate landed at the target (a re-encode keeps a single file, so the file count alone can't tell)
- Failure tracking and the conversion log work the same as for multi-file conversions
- Large libraries are scanned gradually (at most 100 bitrate checks per cycle); books already at or below the target are remembered and not checked again until the container restarts
- Off by default — nothing changes for existing setups. Has no effect with
BITRATE=sourceunlessBITRATE_CAPis set
See the README for details.
