github cristianadrielbraun/gofer v0.9.0

This release is about taking your data with you. Gofer can now export and import your profile and whole mailboxes, and move mail between accounts. iCloud joins Gmail, Outlook and IMAP as an account type.

Export and import

  • A new Settings › Export and import section collects everything here.
  • Profile: save your preferences, signatures, accounts and, optionally, contacts kept only in Gofer to a file, then bring them into another Gofer. The file never holds passwords. Before anything changes, you see what the file holds and can leave parts out.
  • Mailboxes: export an account's folders as mbox files in a ZIP, which other mail apps can open. Import mbox, eml or ZIP files into any account, and choose which folder each set goes into. Messages keep their date and their read and flagged state, and messages already in the folder are skipped.

Move mail between accounts

  • Copy or move mail to another account, a folder at a time from Settings, or by dragging emails onto another account's folder or using the Move dialog. A dialog asks first.
  • A moved email is deleted from the first account only after its copy is saved, and goes to that account's Trash.
  • Exports, imports and moves run in the background, can be paused and continued, and pick up where they stopped after a restart.

iCloud accounts

  • Add an iCloud account with your Apple Account email and an app-specific password. Mail, contacts and calendars connect without any server settings.
  • Gmail, Outlook and iCloud accounts no longer have a separate Sending step, since they send through the same connection as their mail sync.

Contacts

  • Contacts no longer need an email address. A name, an email address or a phone number is enough. Google, Outlook and CardDAV sync now bring in contacts without an email instead of skipping them.

Interface

  • Every confirmation and question is now one of Gofer's own dialogs, instead of the browser's popups.
  • In Express, check boxes, radio buttons and file pickers have the classic look.

Fixes

  • CardDAV sync no longer stops at the first contact without an email.
  • CalDAV calendars on another server of the same domain, as iCloud uses, no longer fail with "resource on a different origin".

Before upgrading

  • Database: no changes. You can go back to 0.8.0 without restoring a backup, but as always, back up your data directory first.
  • Accounts: no new permissions are needed, so existing accounts keep working without reconnecting.

Gofer remains pre-1.0. I'm actively using and improving it, but please keep backups and test your setup before relying on it for anything critical.
