This release adds identities (more From addresses per account, optionally sent through their own SMTP server), a theme builder for your own named themes, hand-chosen folder roles for IMAP accounts, and a round of fixes to the mail list and folder tree.
Identities (#37)
- An account can send as further addresses, each with its own name, optional Reply-To and signature. Manage them from the account's menu in Settings → Identities.
- Compose's From menu lists every account with its identities. Replies, reply-all and forwards start as the identity the message was sent to, and reply-all leaves out all of your own addresses.
- JMAP and Gmail accounts bring in the addresses their provider lets them send from (JMAP identities, Gmail's verified send-as aliases), refreshed at most once an hour or on demand.
- An identity can send through its own SMTP server with its own login, on any account except Outlook, with a Test button that logs in without sending. The Sent copy still lands in the account's Sent folder on IMAP, Gmail and JMAP.
- Gofer warns when Gmail sent from a different address than the one chosen, and Outlook's Send As refusal is explained in plain words.
- Profile export carries identities you added yourself, without SMTP passwords.
Theme builder (#33)
- Appearance has a theme builder that makes a whole theme from one color, with a live preview of the app: optional secondary color (with suggestions), light or dark base, tint and its strength, contrast up to WCAG AAA, raised or flat surfaces and four corner sizes.
- Keep up to twelve named Custom themes, duplicate them, and fine-tune any single color by hand.
- Classic and Minimal's colors can be changed too, per color, for light and dark mode.
- Scrollbars follow the theme's colors in every browser.
Folder roles for IMAP (#41)
- Gofer now asks IMAP servers for special-use folder attributes, so Trash, Sent and the others are found on servers that name them in another language, such as a French Gmail's "[Gmail]/Corbeille".
- Where a folder still isn't found, the account's menu has Folder roles to choose Sent, Drafts, Trash, Spam and Archive by hand, or to create a missing one. An alert next to the account says which are missing.
- Actions that need a missing folder now say so and offer to fix it: Delete can delete permanently instead, spam and archive no longer fail silently, drafts aren't lost, and sent mail is saved to Sent once there is one.
Mail list and folders
- Folders nested three or more levels deep now show in the sidebar. (#46)
- A collapsed folder shows the unread count of its subfolders. (#45)
- Shift-click selects the right range after scrolling or sorting. (#44)
- After "Select all in this list", the selection can be dragged to its account's folders, and Move to is offered for several emails of one account. (#43)
- Switching between cards and table is instant and no longer freezes the page.
- Spam folders show Not spam in the toolbar.
- Moving mail within Gofer no longer notifies about it as new mail.
- Mail operations refreshes every 15 seconds, with a countdown and a Refresh button.
Upgrade notes
- ⚠️ This release upgrades the database (schema 130). You can't go back to an older release afterwards, so back up your data directory first.
- Custom themes are stored in a new format. An older release won't see a Custom theme saved with this one.
Gofer remains pre-1.0. I'm actively using and improving it, but please keep backups and test your setup before relying on it for anything critical.
