This release adds right-click menus throughout the app, a Trash for contacts, and webhook notifications for Outlook. It also adds one-click Empty Trash and Spam, and sends bulk changes to mail servers in batches.

Outlook webhook notifications (opt-in)

  • Outlook accounts can get instant updates from Microsoft through webhooks, instead of waiting for the next scheduled check. Turn it on with GOFER_OUTLOOK_WEBHOOKS=true. It needs authentication turned on, a public https GOFER_BASE_URL, and /webhooks/outlook reachable from the internet. See "Outlook change notifications" in docs/setup.md, which also covers GOFER_OUTLOOK_WEBHOOKS_SKIP_ALLOWED_CIDRS for installations with an IP allowlist.
  • Notifications cover the whole mailbox, so drafts, sent mail and moves made in other apps show up right away too.
  • Each Outlook account picks webhook notifications or scheduled checks in Settings → Sync. Next to the option, Gofer shows whether notifications are working, and Test connection checks that Microsoft can reach Gofer.

Right-click menus

  • Messages: reply, read, star, archive, move, labels and delete, plus spam, download, view source and re-fetch under More. On a selection, the menu acts on every selected message.
  • Folders: mark all as read, and Empty Trash or move all Spam to Trash. Accounts: sync now.
  • Contacts: new message, copy address, their messages, edit, export vCard and delete.
  • Calendar events: open, join meeting, forward, reply to an invitation, edit and delete, for one occurrence or the whole series.
  • Delete items turn red when hovered.

Trash and Spam

  • In Trash and Spam, Delete stays in the list toolbar with nothing selected. In Trash it empties the folder for good; in Spam it moves everything to Trash. Both ask first.
  • Mark as read, Empty Trash and clearing Spam each take one request, whatever the folder's size, and work on unified folders too.
  • Delete now comes first in every toolbar, so it stays in place when other actions appear or disappear.

Faster bulk changes

  • Read, star and permanent-delete changes now go to the server in batches on IMAP, JMAP, Gmail and Outlook, instead of one request per message. Marking a large folder read or emptying a big Trash is much quicker, especially on servers that limit logins.

Contacts

  • Deleted contacts go to a new Trash in the contacts sidebar, and the toast offers Undo. They stay in their synced address books until you delete them for good, by hand or automatically after 30 days. You can restore contacts from the Trash or empty it.
  • Contacts can be selected like messages (click, Ctrl/Cmd, Shift, or select all), then emailed, exported as vCards or deleted together.
  • Contact cards are more compact. Each one shows where the contact comes from (an account, observed in mail, or added by hand) and when they were last seen.
  • The toolbar is ordered like the mail list's, and filters sit behind a Filters button next to search.
  • Escape now clears the selection even while a contact is open.

Fixes

  • Drafts edited in another app now show their new body. Before, Gofer kept showing the first version while the list preview was up to date.
  • Some stored dates, such as contacts' last-seen times, showed as raw text like "2014-12-22 17:50:37 +0000 UTC".
  • Only one dropdown inside a popup can be open at a time.
  • The contacts view toggle no longer shifts against its border after switching views.

Upgrade notes

  • ⚠️ This release upgrades the database (schema 123). You can't go back to an older release afterwards, so back up your data directory first.
  • ⚠️ With neither GOFER_AUTH_MODE nor GOFER_AUTH_ENABLED set, Gofer now runs in personal mode instead of open. A binary install that relied on the old default will show "PERSONAL SETUP REQUIRED" with a setup token on its next start. Your mail is kept. To keep running without a login, set GOFER_AUTH_MODE=open. Docker images already defaulted to personal.
  • Contacts deleted before this upgrade are already gone from their address books, so they don't appear in the Trash.

Gofer remains pre-1.0. I'm actively using and improving it, but please keep backups and test your setup before relying on it for anything critical.
