This update contains a fix for CompatTelRunner.exe constantly crashing and restarting on some Windows PCs while reading Just the Browser's entries in the Windows Registry. All Windows users should apply the fix to avoid background CPU usage. Mac and Linux systems are not affected.
The fix is automatically applied when performing any of these actions:
- Starting the Just the Browser installer, and then closing it after the menu loads
- Updating or removing the configurations for each web browser in the installer
- Manually installing the current
install.regoruninstall.regfiles for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Brave - Running these commands in a PowerShell window with Administrator permissions:
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\JustTheBrowserChrome"
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\JustTheBrowserEdge"
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\JustTheBrowserFirefox"
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\JustTheBrowserBrave"After the fix is applied, Just the Browser browser configurations will no longer appear in the "Installed apps" section of the Windows settings, or the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel. You can still update or remove the browser configurations with the Windows installer or registry files.
