A quick follow up to v1.4.0 with two corrections.
Empty notice at the top of the page is gone
v1.4.0 could show an empty notice bar under the heading, even when there was nothing to tell you. The bar was marked as hidden, but a style rule on the same element overruled that and drew it anyway. It now stays properly out of the way and only appears when there is actually a newer version to point you at.
Update checking is now off by default
The update notice is a convenience, not something a copy you host should do without being asked. In v1.4.0 it was on by default. From v1.4.1 the self-hosted copy makes no outside requests at all unless you opt in.
To switch it on, open index.html and set UPDATE_CHECK to true in the script near the update check section. Once a day the page then reads the latest public release number from GitHub and shows a small dismissible banner if your copy is behind. Even then it sends nothing about you or your signature, caches the answer for 24 hours, and stays quiet when you are offline.
The version you are running is still shown at the bottom of every page, so you can always check by hand against the releases page here.
The live site keeps the check switched on, since it is always the newest build.
Upgrading
- Live site: https://signatures.clarkemedia.ie
- Docker:
docker pull ghcr.io/clarkemedia/email-signature-generator:latest, or pin:1.4.1, then restart your container - Self-hosted: replace your
index.htmlwith the one from this release
Images are built for linux/amd64, linux/arm64 and linux/arm/v7. Your saved details and exported settings files carry over untouched.
Sorry about the empty bar in v1.4.0. Thanks, as always, for the reports. If this has saved you some time, you can buy me a coffee ☕
