github censortracker/censortracker v21.0.0
Version 21.0.0

Censor Tracker works again! Built-in proxies and registry updates are back.

Version 21.0.0 is a major release. It adds a new proxy system, more registry sources, a consent page and a full migration to WXT and TypeScript.

Privacy and consent

  • A consent page now opens before the extension sends any data. You can review or withdraw consent in settings and in the popup.
  • Rewrote the privacy policy.
  • Notification hostnames from private tabs are no longer saved.
  • Fonts are bundled, so the extension makes no remote font requests.
  • Declared data collection permissions for Firefox.

Proxies

  • Built-in and custom proxies are in one shared list, with site distribution, failover and proxy authentication.
  • Proxy imports, optional subscriptions, parallel checks, filtering, sorting and bulk deletion.
  • Proxy checks retry and show the reason for a failure. The health flag shows if the selected proxy is available.
  • Per-site exit-country restrictions. Local addresses and exclusions always go direct.
  • Amnezia Premium local proxy support with dynamic ports, connection checks and recovery.
  • Built-in service endpoints, with direct requests and proxy fallback.
  • Removed the proxy-all switch from settings.

Registries and lists

  • External registries, Anticensority hostname lists and Antizapret proxies (used only for provider-listed domains).
  • Regional, custom and optional API domain lists are merged, with separate caches and a registry load status.
  • Automatic API mirror updates, plus backup and storage mirrors for the Russian registry.
  • ETag caching for downloads. Background tasks run every 60 minutes, and the service request timeout is 60 seconds.
  • Faster domain lookup for large registries. The domain index is cached in IndexedDB.

Popup and settings

  • The popup shows planned route details, the last checked exit and related page domains.
  • Settings import and export with validation, including legacy backups and backups from the avatarDD fork.
  • Interface language selector for English, Russian and Ukrainian.
  • Notices after installation and updates, with a support link.
  • Detailed diagnostics and a support report export.
  • Fixed translations, popup layout and dark theme styles. Support links now go to blockedin.org.
  • An animated Easter egg.

Fixes

  • Restoring registry and proxy recovery settings from backups works correctly, including external registry reloads.
  • Settings reset restores all user settings before sync, also without granted permissions.
  • Fixed hostname matching, proxy endpoint validation, stale routing updates and recovery of failed proxies.
  • Port knocks use a temporary direct route, also in proxy-all mode.
  • Fixed Firefox private browsing permission updates, proxy retries and blocking when no proxy is available.

Development

  • Migrated the build from webpack and JavaScript to WXT and TypeScript. Page logic runs in the background, with one bundle per page.
  • Production bundles and release archives are reproducible.
  • Cleaned up styles, optimized assets and tightened lint, type and CSP configuration.
  • Updated dependencies, added tests, CI build artifacts and a Nix development shell.

Special thanks to the avatarDD fork for some feature ideas!
