About this release

This is the fifth beta version of BurmillaOS v3. It fixes a first-boot race that stopped user Docker, ships the base system and System Docker versions that were meant for beta4, and comes with updated otel-collector and fleet-client services. Please be aware that there may still be bugs.

Release notes

• Fixed a first-boot race where console-init switched the user Docker engine while ros-sysinit was still starting it, which stopped user Docker and left two docker containers in System Docker. console-init now waits for the engine started by sysinit, and ros engine switch does nothing when the requested engine is already running (#247)
• os-base v2025.02.18-2, os-initrd-base v2025.02.18-3 and System Docker 17.06.117. The beta4 notes listed these, but the beta4 build still used os-base v2025.02.18-1, os-initrd-base v2025.02.18-2 (which already had the new root CA bundle) and System Docker 17.06.116 (#248)
• Kernel 6.12.114 and the Debian 13 console are unchanged

Services (burmilla/os-services, branch v3.0.x)

• otel-collector v0.163.2-3:
  • Logs only warnings and errors locally by default; set OTELCOL_LOG_LEVEL to change it (burmilla/os-services#117)
  • No longer collects System Docker logs, and the process ID of syslog lines is parsed correctly (burmilla/os-services#119)
  • Docker stats metrics get the Swarm stack namespace as the namespace_name label (burmilla/os-services#121)
• fleet-client v3.0.6: retries in a minute when user Docker is not reachable, and runs scheduled restarts also without upgrade_policy: auto (burmilla/os-services#113, burmilla/os-services#115)
