Release notes

Fixes for beta1 known issues

  • AppArmor is enabled again on the Debian 13 console, so User Docker uses the docker-default profile (#230)
  • Hyper-V tools no longer crash (glibc mismatch), rebuilt for the 6.12.114 kernel (#230, burmilla/os-services#93)
  • Enabling the ZFS service works again with OpenZFS 2.4.4 (burmilla/os-services#93)
  • Docker engines missing after upgrading from v2: the v3 service repository now has every engine offered by v2.0.x plus docker-29.7.1 to 29.9.2. If the configured engine is still not available, the default engine is started instead so Docker comes up (#230, burmilla/os-services#93)

New features

  • multipath-tools included in the console for SAN multipath (#230)
  • Hot-added CPUs and memory are brought online automatically. Fixes #199 (#233)
  • New ros console sshd disable|enable|status command. disable --if-idle only disables sshd when there are no SSH sessions (#232)
  • New optional system services in os-services:
    • fleet-client connects the server to the new Fleet Manager for inventory, SSH key management and Swarm-aware rolling upgrades and restarts
    • otel-collector runs the OpenTelemetry Collector to export host and container metrics and logs over OTLP

Security

  • Fixed file permission bugs: engine binaries, saved cloud-config and the shell profiles of the rancher and docker users were world- or group-writable (#231)
  • Removed dead code and obsolete scripts (#231)

Known issues

  • AppArmor is not enabled in the arm64 kernel
  • Hyper-V VSS and fcopy daemons are not started (KVP works)

Those changes can be reviewed in pull requests #229, #230, #231, #232 and #233 and in the linked repos.
