92 Release Notes
WDL 1.1 Support
- Cromwell now fully supports WDL 1.1. Users can specify
Version: "1.1"in their workflow options to use WDL 1.1 features. See the WDL 1.1 Spec
Migration of PK to BIGINT
The PK of the JOB_KEY_VALUE_ENTRY table will be migrated from INT to BIGINT.
AWS ECR Docker Remote Hashing
- Fixed an issue where ECR images without an explicit repository prefix
(e.g.,123456789012.dkr.ecr.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/example-tool) would fail during remote hash computation due to incorrect manifest URI construction.
The Docker registry implementation now correctly handles ECR's support for repository-less image paths.
AWS Batch
- Added support for submitting jobs to AWS Batch queues in different regions. The region is now automatically derived from the
queueArnruntime attribute, allowing multi-region workflows without additional configuration. - Fixed an issue where job failures before all outputs were written would cause delocalization to fail, preventing the upload of return code, stdout, and stderr files needed for debugging.
- Split the option to tag resources between AWS Batch jobs vs. EC2 and EBS volumes hardware
- Moved the option to tag job resources from runtime attributes to backend config.
- Appended the custom labels to the list of resource tags to propagate
Progress toward WDL 1.1 Support
- WDL 1.1 support is in progress. Users that would like to try out the current partial support can do so by using WDL version
development-1.1. In Cromwell 92,development-1.1has been enhanced to include:- Support for passthrough syntax for call inputs, e.g.
{ input: foo }rather than{ input: foo = foo }. - Support for setting or overriding individual task runtime attributes in workflow inputs, e.g.
{ "workflow1.task1.runtime.cpu": "4"}. - Support for new boolean runtime attribute
gpu, which tells the engine to require a GPU to be available in order to run the task. See the attribute's docs for details.
- Support for passthrough syntax for call inputs, e.g.
GPU changes on Google Cloud backend
Removed nvidiaDriverVersion
In GCP Batch, the nvidiaDriverVersion attribute is ignored. Now that Life Sciences has retired, the attribute is now fully deprecated and can be removed from workflows.
Added predefinedMachineType (alpha)
The new predefinedMachineType attribute is introduced in experimental status. See the attribute's docs for details.
Database Migration
The index IX_METADATA_ENTRY_WEU_CFQN_JSI_JRA_MK is added to METADATA_ENTRY. In pre-release testing, the migration proceeded at about 3 million rows per minute. Please plan downtime accordingly.
This index supports planned metadata API enhancements that enable querying at granular scopes, namely calls, shards, and attempts.
