Wino Mail 2.2.0.0

Wino Mail recently got a big update that brings hundreds of fixes and improvements including Wino People, Wino To Do, companion and Native AOT for performance... There are bunch of details to be mentioned but before I share the full list of what has been improved and implemented I wanted to thank everybody who used the app, contributed to the source code, provided feedback and joined the discussions to make it happen. Without your love for the product none of them would've happened.

Sincerely, Burak.

Download Wino Mail from Microsoft Store

Can't use Microsoft Store? Install the stable sideload build with App Installer: WinoMail.appinstaller

Note

The sideload build gets its updates from the Wino download feed, not from Microsoft Store. Install it from the .appinstaller link above. It has its own package identity, so it can be installed next to the Store version if you want to.

Highlights

  • Native AOT and full trimming. Wino is now compiled to native code for x86, x64 and ARM64, so startup is faster and the whole app is more responsive.
  • Wino People. A new mode for managing contacts across your accounts, with address books, lists, favorites, photos and a much richer contact editor.
  • Wino To Do. Task lists, smart views, due dates, reminders and steps now sit next to Mail, Calendar and People.
  • Wino Companion. A quick-access window in the system tray for unread mail, tasks and shortcuts into every Wino mode.
  • New mail list. The mail list was rebuilt from scratch, which fixes the input lag when you select a mail or expand a thread.
  • New Wino Editor. Jodit was replaced with a lighter editor built for Wino, used both to write and to display mail.
  • Mail Filters. Wino now syncs your Outlook and Gmail filters, and you can also create more powerful local filters.
  • Wino Intelligence (optional paid add-on). Message insights, summaries, translation, rewriting and Daily Briefing.
  • Personalization. A theme gallery and theme editor, 15 new themes, colored icons, account profile pictures and configurable hover actions.
  • Notification Settings. Choose which accounts notify you, how much detail is shown, quiet hours, snooze and reminder timing.
  • Stronger IMAP support. Better connection testing, authentication, TLS handling, more than 25 built-in IMAP providers and faster connection warm-up.
  • Encrypted backup and restore. Every backup now needs a password, and backups stored on Wino servers can't be decrypted by the servers.
  • New languages. Hebrew (with right-to-left layout) and Vietnamese.
  • New animations and flyouts

Performance: Native AOT and trimming

  • The WinUI app and its supporting services now build with Native AOT and full trimming, with publishing profiles for x86, x64 and ARM64. Startup is close to, and sometimes faster than, the old UWP app.
  • Startup is faster, and high memory use caused by an obsolete tokenizer and by the Companion has been fixed.
  • Switching between mails is faster because less work is spent finding frames, and mail templates load faster.
  • The mail list loads faster from a cold start, and its grouping is more stable.

Wino People

People is a new top-level Wino mode for managing contacts across accounts, not a small popup next to the inbox.

  • Browse all contacts, filter to favorites, switch between address books and personal lists, or search for a person.
  • Grouped views and contact counts make large collections easier to read. Account indicators show where each contact comes from when you have several providers.
  • The contact editor was rebuilt. It supports multiple email addresses and phone numbers, company and job details, postal addresses, websites, birthdays, notes and list membership.
  • Add, change or remove a contact photo. Photos are used throughout People.
  • Add a contact to a list, or remove it, without creating a duplicate of the person.
  • Start a new email directly from a contact.
  • CardDAV rework: support for server-backed address books, creating new address books when the server allows it, and clearer read-only and pending states.
  • Conflict handling: when a contact changes both locally and on the server, you choose whether to keep the server version, keep your version or keep both.
  • People has its own icon and activation route, so Wino can open straight into contacts.

Wino To Do

  • A dedicated To Do mode with task lists and the smart views My Day, Important, Planned, All and Completed.
  • Create, rename, group and color lists. Counts in the navigation show the state of each view.
  • Tasks support due dates, reminders, importance, notes, completion state and steps.
  • Completing a task gives instant feedback, while synced changes are reconciled in the background.
  • Works with Microsoft-backed tasks and other supported synced accounts, alongside Wino's local tasks.
  • Better task summaries and task-list selection.

Wino Companion

Wino Companion is a new quick-access window that opens from the system tray (#1065).

  • See unread mail and account information.
  • Open Mail, Calendar, People and To Do from one place.
  • Work with tasks without opening the main Wino window.
  • Open Wino and Companion actions with keyboard shortcuts.
  • The Companion follows your selected Wino theme and uses a Mica background.
  • Settings include the Companion keyboard shortcut and unread badge behavior.

Mail experience

New mail list and threading

  • Rendering, grouping, threading, selection, paging and initialization of the mail list moved to a dedicated controls library. Large mailboxes and threaded conversations are now smooth to browse.
  • Semantic zoom is back, so you can jump quickly between groups of messages.
  • Selection works better, including multiple selection and applying actions to many selected messages from the list or from swipe actions.
  • Registered account avatars are now shown with priority in other accounts' mail lists.
  • Conversation thread handling was fixed in several places.

Reader View

  • Reader View turns a busy newsletter or heavily styled message into a clean reading layout inside Wino. You can return to the original formatting at any time.
  • Messages are rendered in memory, and a shimmer placeholder replaces the blank flash you used to see while switching messages.

Searchable mail context flyout and move dialog

  • The message menu was replaced by a new mail context flyout. It has clearer spacing, labels, icons, shortcut hints, section headers and better keyboard behavior.
  • Type to filter commands instantly, so actions like move, mark, flag, archive and delete are easy to reach.
  • The move dialog shows folders as a hierarchy with icons. Expandable groups now open like groups instead of acting as destinations.
  • Context menus and flyouts across Wino were also improved.

Hover actions

  • Hover actions were rebuilt with larger hit areas, clearer hover feedback, better contrast and positions that don't cover the subject or sender (#1032).
  • Set any slot to None, choose small, medium or large buttons, choose where they appear on the message row, and pick a slide, popup or no-motion transition.
  • The Message List settings page has a live preview for density, layout and hover actions.

Search

  • The title-bar search box was rebuilt, with better history and cancellation behavior.

Composer and Wino Editor

  • Compose uses the new Wino Editor with a redesigned toolbar for formatting, images, tables, links, fonts and editor actions.
  • Code blocks are supported in the editor (#620).
  • You can now choose the spell-checker language for the editor. Wino remembers your choice.
  • Drafts can be opened in their own compose window.
  • Locally saved drafts are now synced to the server in the background. Previously they stayed on your device.
  • Draft deletion, draft sync and retrying drafts that can't be sent right away are more reliable.
  • The editor handles rendering and switching between light and dark themes better.
  • When sending through SMTP, Wino no longer adds the X-Wino-Header header, so your email client isn't revealed to recipients (#697).

Mail Filters

  • Outlook and Gmail filters are now synced, and Wino adds its own local filters with a local action queue. Local filters are more powerful, and provider filters are also supported.
  • The feature is opt-in. Outlook and Gmail accounts need to sign in again to grant the new permissions. This covers the spam-filter part of #1005.

More mail improvements

  • Move to Focused and Move to Other, with their Always versions, are now available for Outlook (#464).
  • Contact avatars share one loading and caching system, with colorful fallback avatars when no picture is available.
  • Better HTML preview and mail rendering, including improved handling of S/MIME signed and encrypted messages.
  • Attachment detection is more accurate, so Wino can choose the right action and apply Windows safety rules before opening a file (#1053).
  • Attachments work better in new mail, received mail and calendar events.

Wino Intelligence (optional paid add-on)

Wino Intelligence is an optional paid add-on. Mail, Calendar, People, To Do and everything else in this release work without it.

  • Message insights show priority, deadlines, whether a reply may be needed, and the kind of action involved.
  • Summaries reduce long messages to key points. Translation lets you read a translated message while keeping the original available.
  • Translate and rewrite drafts with a chosen tone or your own instruction before you send.
  • Daily Briefing gives you a focused overview of recent mail, grouped by account and date. Urgent items appear first, along with actions such as opening the email, replying, copying a verification code or adding a date to Calendar. You can dismiss items and bring them back from the ignored-items view.
  • Privacy: the feature is opt-in. Wino shows the privacy policy first, lets you choose which accounts are covered, shows your quota, and lets you stop processing and delete Intelligence data. Intelligence features are hidden when the add-on isn't active.
  • The add-on was reworked during the beta cycle.

Calendar

  • Open an online meeting directly from the event details.
  • Clearer selections, and overlapping events are now laid out side by side with readable titles (#1057, #1062).
  • New calendar display preferences.
  • Calendar accounts are grouped more clearly, with ungrouped accounts kept separate.
  • Calendar and task data from supported providers is more reliable, and reminders and notifications are more dependable.
  • Fixed unstable or incorrect month content while navigating.

Accounts

  • Account profile pictures. Wino can download your Gmail or Outlook profile picture and refresh it later, or you can choose a picture on your device. Custom pictures stay local and are never uploaded to the provider. Custom account colors appear as a thin ring around the avatar (#499).
  • One account menu everywhere. Mail, Calendar, People and To Do share the same account menu, icons, selection, context commands and links to account settings. Merged and grouped accounts keep their provider identity.
  • The sync button now shows which mode and which kind of data it is syncing.
  • Compact account menu items are available on the Personalization page (#667).
  • Wino Account now supports an optional profile picture and display name, and its signed-out screens were redesigned with clearer purchase and management states.
  • New accounts start syncing in a predictable order.

IMAP and connectivity

  • Account setup, SSL checks, validation and configuration were reviewed. Settings chosen in the UI are now applied correctly to IMAP connections.
  • Connection testing, authentication compatibility, TLS handling and certificate explanations were improved for servers that used to fail during or right after sign-in (#930).
  • More than 25 well-known IMAP providers can now be selected during setup.
  • IDLE and NOOP clients start faster, so the connection pool is ready noticeably sooner after launch. Some mail servers get special handling to keep connections alive.
  • Draft and sending handling for IMAP accounts was improved.
  • Fixed Gmail accounts seeing an "App is blocked" message because of authentication permissions (#1060).
  • Gmail sync and request handling were hardened, and Gmail and Outlook mail sync was improved in general.

Notifications

  • A new Notification Settings page brings mail, calendar, task and Companion notifications together.
  • Choose which accounts can notify you, how much mail detail appears and the notification scope for each account. For example, you can turn off notifications for Outlook's Other inbox (#1085).
  • Set quiet hours and the days they apply, snooze notifications for a preset time, and choose reminder timing for tasks and calendar events.
  • Choose custom sounds for mail and calendar notifications from the sounds Windows provides.
  • Fixed the size of notification icons.

Personalization and themes

  • A theme gallery and a full application theme editor, with a color picker plus swatches and a preview panel that stays in place while you scroll (#1042, #1043).
  • 15 new themes and Mica previews while choosing a theme.
  • Colored icons across the app.
  • Refreshed illustrations, account icons, provider selection, setup illustrations and permission explanations, with better dark-mode colors.
  • Keyboard shortcuts are grouped by app mode. They now cover actions such as creating a contact or task, reject unsafe key combinations, and can be reset to defaults as a group.
  • Removed redundant acrylic backdrops and cleaned up theme behavior.
  • Fixed a brief flash of the wrong theme when opening an existing dark window from a notification.

Settings, backup and upgrade

  • Backup and restore was reworked. Every backup now requires a password. Encrypted backups stored on Wino servers are storage only, and the servers can't decrypt them. Several restore problems were also fixed.
  • Safer upgrades. A dedicated migration window shows progress, and an interrupted migration resumes safely.
  • Settings search finds more pages and opens the right subpage more reliably.
  • Settings pages that are several levels deep now show sub-headers.
  • Improved welcome experience and update notifications.
  • Better accessibility, including keyboard, screen reader, light, dark and High Contrast support for search, contacts, tasks and Intelligence (#296).
  • Better telemetry and Sentry reporting, with redaction of diagnostic data.

Languages

  • Hebrew, with right-to-left layout (#1003).
  • Vietnamese.
  • Updated translations in all supported languages (#984).

Distribution

  • Wino now has three distributions: Microsoft Store, Beta and Stable sideload. Each has its own package identity and update feed, so they can be installed side by side. Beta builds use a purple icon.
  • Sideload packages are signed and update through App Installer feeds. Package identity, included apps, architectures and signing are checked before every release. This adds the stable installer outside Microsoft Store requested in #369.
