Bambu Studio V2.8.3 Beta introduces a series of new features and user experience improvements.

This version adds illustrated slicing parameter tips to help users better understand how different settings affect printing. It also improves the interaction experience and filament entry workflow in the Filament Manager, and optimizes the automatic placement behavior of the wipe tower to reduce overlaps and interference with models or other objects.

On the slicing side, the slicing engine now supports independently setting the infill line width for the first layer to improve first-layer adhesion. A new Archimedean spiral ironing pattern has been added to further improve top surface quality. In addition, users can now set a separate infill pattern for the second-to-top surface, helping reduce the visibility of internal extrusion marks on the top surface.

This release also improves the stability of the Boolean tool, refines mouse interaction behavior, and fixes a range of known issues to provide a smoother overall experience.

You can download the Flathub version for Linux from Bambu Studio on Flathub
The Flathub version is maintained by @hadess ; thanks to him for his outstanding work.

Note: 3MF files saved in the Beta version are temporarily not supported for upload to MakerWorld. If you need to upload, please use the official release version.

New Features

Illustrated Slicing Parameter Tips

When users hover the mouse over a process parameter name, Bambu Studio will display the corresponding parameter tip. Parameter tips now support illustrated explanations, making it easier to understand what each setting means, how it works, and how it may affect the print result. This helps new users learn and adjust slicing parameters more easily.

image

Note: This update mainly covers process parameters in Simple Mode. Tips for more advanced parameters will be added and improved in future releases.

Independently Set Initial-layer Wall and Infill Line Widths

This version adds a new Initial Layer Infill Line Width parameter. The original Initial Layer Line Width parameter now applies to lines except the infill lines on the initial layer, including the initial-layer wall lines, allowing users to control the wall line width and infill line width of the initial layer separately.

Users can moderately increase the initial-layer infill line width based on actual print results. For example, when using a 0.4 mm nozzle, setting the initial-layer infill line width to 0.55 mm can help improve initial-layer adhesion and reduce the chance of poor initial-layer printing.

image

Note: It is not recommended to set the initial-layer wall line width too large, as this may increase the risk of losing fine details on the initial layer for certain models.

Add Filament Vendors / Brands from the Filament Manager Entry Page

This version improves the filament entry workflow in the Filament Manager. Users can now add custom filament vendors or brands directly from the entry page.

image

When the corresponding filament parameter preset does not exist, users can create a custom filament directly in the Filament Manager without switching to the Prepare page, making the workflow more convenient and efficient.

New Archimedean Spiral Pattern for Ironing, Providing a More Uniform Surface Finish

This version adds a new Archimedean spiral pattern for ironing. The new pattern expands outward gradually from the center of the region, and the toolpath can be naturally interrupted by internal holes in the model. Compared with the standard concentric pattern, it helps reduce marks caused by the innermost toolpaths and produces a more uniform ironing result.
ArchimedeanSpiraliron.zip

image

Note: Ironing quality is affected by multiple factors, including flow rate, line spacing, top surface print speed, temperature, and the physical properties of the material. Users should tune the settings based on actual print results. The default parameters may not be suitable for all scenarios. (Wiki)

New Infill Pattern Parameter for the Sub-Top Surface

This version separates the sub-top surface from internal solid infill, allowing users to set its infill pattern independently.

image

By default, the sub-top surface now uses monotonic infill instead of the rectilinear pattern previously used for internal solid infill. This helps reduce the visibility of extrusion marks from internal solid infill on the model’s top surface and improves the top surface appearance.

Improvements

Improved Mouse Interaction in the 3D Workspace

This version improves mouse interaction in the 3D workspace, making zooming, rotating, and panning feel more natural and stable. The improvements include:

  1. Mouse wheel zoom now centers on the mouse pointer by default, reducing cases where the model shifts away from the center of the view or even moves out of view during zooming.
  2. When rotating the view, Bambu Studio now rotates around the currently selected model by default. If multiple models are selected, it rotates around the center of the selection. If no model is selected, it rotates around the center of the build plate.
  3. Canvas dragging, touch rotation, and the 3D Navigator now use the same rotation center, so models are less likely to drift out of view during fast rotation.

Users can adjust these interaction behaviors in Preferences according to their personal habits.

Improved Wipe Tower Placement Experience

This version optimizes the generation and placement behavior of the wipe tower when switching printer models or using auto-arrange, reducing the need for repeated manual adjustments caused by wipe tower position shifts or interference.

This improvement mainly addresses the following scenarios:

  1. Reduces cases where a creator’s local 3MF file slices correctly, but fails to slice after being uploaded to MakerWorld due to an abnormal wipe tower position.
  2. Reduces cases where, after switching printer models, changes in build plate size cause the wipe tower to interfere with the model or unprintable areas, preventing slicing or printing.
  3. When switching printer models, Bambu Studio will first try to move the wipe tower to the recommended position for the selected printer model. This behavior is controlled by the “Automatically optimize wipe tower placement” option in Preferences and is enabled by default.
image

The detailed logic includes:

  1. When switching printer models, if the model and wipe tower together remain within the build plate area, Bambu Studio will center them as a whole. If the build plate size remains unchanged after switching, centering will not be triggered. The software will then try to place the wipe tower at the recommended position for the selected printer model, while automatically avoiding unprintable areas. If the adjustment fails, the original layout will be preserved.
  2. When the wipe tower is generated for the first time, it will be placed at the recommended position for the selected printer model whenever possible, while avoiding unprintable areas.
  3. After auto-arrange is completed, the wipe tower will try to move to the recommended position for the selected printer model. If the move fails, it will remain at its original position.

Filament Manager Entry Workflow Aligned with Bambu Handy

This version improves the filament entry workflow in the Filament Manager by aligning the entry fields and operation flow with Bambu Handy, providing a more consistent experience across desktop and mobile devices. Details include:

  • When a new filament is detected, the corresponding filament in the AMS slot on the Device page will display an entry indicator. Users can click it to confirm and add the filament recognized by the AMS to the Filament Manager.
image
  • When the AMS detects a new filament and multiple filaments of the same type already exist in the Filament Manager, users can choose to bind the detected filament to one of the existing entries, or register it separately as a new filament spool.
image

Improved Filament Selection for AMS / External Spool on the Device Page

This version improves the filament selection experience for AMS and external spool holders on the Device page.

  • During filament selection, filaments are now grouped into two main categories: Filament Manager and System Filaments. Search and vendor-based filtering are also supported, making it easier for users to find the desired filament.
  • The page layout and interaction details have been optimized to provide a smoother overall experience.
image

Added Warning for Reversed Faces

Previously, Bambu Studio did not support detecting reversed faces in models, which could lead to rendering issues and potentially mislead users.

This version adds the ability to detect reversed faces. When users select a model that may contain reversed-face issues, Bambu Studio will display a warning indicating that the model may have rendering abnormalities and recommend repairing it.

Other Improvements

  1. Adjusted the travel speed for P2S to 1000 mm/s to reduce print time.
  2. Improved the color display of gradient filaments and dual-color filaments on the Project Filament page, Filament Manager page, and Gizmo tool interface, making filament color information more accurate and intuitive.
  3. Color decompose interface optimization: When selecting Project Filaments as the color decompose method, color decompose is performed after filtering by filament category; when selecting a Standard Palette, different sets only support specific filament types. The interface also more intuitively displays the color decompose results and the filaments that need to be added.
  4. Added support for Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese.
  5. Add "Lock horizon" option for 3Dconnexion devices (PR 11928). Thanks to @timkarnold.

image

image

image

image

image

image

image
image

image
