What's New in v0.28.53
Starting an agent from New message now covers a new folder, a git repository to clone, and a "+" on every project row. The Inbox also gets a tray of reactions beside 👍, the links in a thread next to its files, Settings → Activity, Bro mode, files from the open thread in New message, and a Desktop size button for HTML pages on a phone. 9 PRs, all from @backnotprop.
Plannotator Inbox
Start an agent in a new folder
When you start an agent from New message, the folder browser can now make the folder for you. Type a path that isn't there yet and the list offers Create billing-svc and start. It sits last and quiet while an existing folder still matches what you typed. Only the last folder in the path is made, and only inside a folder you can write to. A name with a file in the way, or a parent you can't write to, is refused and nothing is made. If no thread comes of it, the folder is removed again while it is still empty. If the agent fails to start, the run line says the folder was made and stays.
A typo one level up offers Go to the folder you probably meant. Two missing levels, a file in the way, a folder you have no permission for, and a hidden folder or one outside your home folder each get one plain line that says so. To's folder button shows a new-folder mark while a new folder is picked.
You can also paste a path. Quotes, file://, Terminal's escaped spaces and full paths are cleaned up to a ~/… path, in the path field and in "Find a project". A path pasted in "Find a project" keeps the projects under it, and "Another folder…" opens there. A draft keeps the folder you picked, even when it isn't a project yet, and it is back when you reopen the draft. #2900
Clone a repository and start an agent in it
The folder menu now reads "Find a project or paste a git URL". Paste an https link, git@host:owner/repo, ssh://… or github.com/owner/repo, and each machine gets a clone row, then Clone into another folder…. A link to …/tree/<branch> clones that branch. A bare acme/billing-api stays a project search. Plain http, git://, file:// and links with a password in them are never used.
The clone goes into the folder that machine last cloned into, or else the folder most of its projects live in, or else your home folder. When the folder name is taken, it goes to the next free name (billing-api-2) and says so. When the same repository is already there, the row offers to start in it instead. A machine whose git can't sign in to that host is dimmed, but you can still pick it. Once you pick, To shows a git mark and the line under it reads "Clones acme/billing-api, then starts Claude Code."
After Send, the run line shows git's progress after 3 seconds, then starts the agent, and the list row reads "Cloning". A repository that brings its own hooks, MCP servers or settings waits for Trust and start. Any other repository is trusted and started without asking. A failed clone says whether it was sign-in, a repository that doesn't exist, the network, or something else. The folder is removed, your message is kept, and Try again, Clone again or your next reply clones again. Copy clone command gives you the git command to run yourself. Cancel removes the folder.
Clones run on the machine you send to, linked machines included, with that machine's own git sign-in. Plannotator never passes a password or token. If that machine is asleep, the message waits and the line reads "Waiting for Mac mini. It clones acme/billing-api and starts Claude Code when it's back." #2904
"+" on a project row
Each project in the sidebar now has a + beside ⋯ that starts a new session there. On a computer it shows with ⋯ when you hover the row or move to it with the keyboard. On a phone it is always shown, and + and ⋯ are 44 px targets each. Its tip names the project, for example "New session in billing-svc", and adds the machine for another machine's project, plus "starts when it's back" while that machine is asleep.
Pressing it opens New message with To filled: "New Claude Code session in billing-svc". The agent is the one you started last, when that machine has it, and the cursor is in the message. On a phone, New message opens full screen with To and the folder filled. The button shows only while starting agents from New message is on, which it is by default. #2905
A tray of reactions beside 👍
👍 Looks good is still one click, now without a toast. The 👍 flies to the message, and the line under the message shows it. A second click on the pressed button, or Z, takes it back within the same 10 seconds.
Rest the pointer on 👍, or hold it on a phone, to open a small tray: 👍, your saved emoji, a +, then …. + opens an emoji picker, saves the emoji you pick to your tray, and offers an optional name, which shows as its tooltip and on the line under the message. You can save up to five. … reacts once with any emoji and saves nothing. To rename, change or remove a saved emoji, hold it on a phone or use its pen. With the keyboard, Tab from 👍 reaches "More reactions", Enter opens the tray, the arrow keys move in it and Escape closes it. On a phone, the picker is a sheet at the bottom of the screen.
Your saved emoji are kept in config.json and every open window has the same tray, so a change on your phone shows on your laptop. The agent hears a reaction the same way it hears 👍 Looks good. #2844
A thread's links next to its files
The thread's Artifacts view now has a Links side. A small Artifacts / Links switch with counts sits at the top of the view, beside a back arrow. Links lists every web link in the thread's messages, once each. GitHub and GitLab links are grouped by repository with their icons, and other links show the site's name. Pull request and issue rows show whether they are open, draft, merged, closed or not planned, in the Board's colours, and a bare #1290 gets its title. Each row asks for its state only once it is on screen.
A thread with links and no files shows "Links N" on its button and opens on Links. A thread with neither shows no button. On a phone, the same switch sits beside "‹ Thread". Back still goes to the thread. #2704
Settings → Activity
A new Activity section in Settings shows your threads hour by hour: one row per thread in the order they began, day labels on top, and a mark for each hour with messages. Bigger marks mean more messages that hour, and neighbouring hours join into one shape. On a phone, Activity is first under "Your data and Plannotator".
The preview in Settings fits the section's width. Click it, or Expand, to open the chart over the whole window, with a range (Today, 3 days, Week, 2 weeks, 30 days), a project filter and a short summary. There, hovering a mark shows the thread's name, that hour's and that day's counts, when the thread started and its last message. A click opens the thread. On a touch screen, the first tap shows the details and a second tap opens. The chart counts this Inbox's threads only, not a linked machine's. #2896
Bro mode
A new Bro mode row in Settings → Capabilities, off by default, asks agents to write to your Inbox in plain words. While it is on, agents read one more line in the Inbox tool's message field: "Don't use jargon and speak coherently. State things more simply and concisely, like one human talking to another. Don't drop important details, especially if the user asks for them." It takes effect from each agent's next session. With it off, agents read exactly what they read before.
People who use the Inbox a lot see a one-time card offering it, at most once, when they come back to the list after reading a long agent message. Turn it on turns it on. Not now, Escape or a click outside leaves it off for good. #2693
Start the next thread with this thread's files
New message, opened over a thread, now has a From this thread row with that thread's files, newest first, up to 8. One click adds a file to the new message without uploading it again, and a second click takes it out. It is only the thread behind New message, never a list of everything.
An archived thread takes no reply, so its files' paperclip-plus button reads "New message with this" and opens New message with the file and an empty To. A picture copied from this Inbox and pasted into a message is now that same file, with its name, instead of a new PNG. Any other paste works as before. #2656
Desktop size for HTML pages on a phone
An HTML page opened full screen on a phone now has one small icon in its top right corner, like Safari's "Request Desktop Website". At Desktop size, the page lays out at 1280 px and is scaled down to the phone's width. Phone size goes back. A page wider than the phone opens at Desktop size by itself. Your choice is remembered for each file, also after a reload, and you can still pinch to zoom. Comments on a scaled page land where you tap. Nothing changes on a computer. #2868
