Update: mVolt+ v0.50.7 will make voltage limits and OCP adjustable again on driver 621.01 and later.
READ THIS: Driver 621.01 and later
Starting with driver 621.01, NVIDIA no longer applies NVVDD/MSVDD voltage-limit
offsets, OCP increases from a BIOS override or the board-current auxiliary limit. The
driver still accepts these writes and returns success, but the GPU keeps its previous
limits. The limits appear to be enforced below the driver now. Since the driver gives no
indication of this, earlier versions of mVolt+ showed the changes as applied.
v0.50.6 disables these controls on 621.01 and (probably) later. This is expected to carry
over to future drivers; if a later driver restores these controls, an mVolt+ update will
re-enable them. Drivers before the 621 branch, up to 617.42, are not affected and support
every control.
Disabled on 621.01 and later:
- Core voltage limits and MSVDD voltage limits, including overvoltage. Both cards show Unavailable with this driver.
- XOC voltage range and Unlock OCP limits in Settings. Extended voltage offsets is not affected.
- NVVDD OCP maximum and MSVDD OCP maximum in BIOS override.
- The auxiliary limit in Board input current. The main limit still works.
Not affected: clock and memory offsets, V/F curves, voltage offset and boost, power
limit and cap, OCP up to the default, fans, thermal inputs and limits, and all other
BIOS override limits.
Notes:
- No action is needed if these controls aren't used.
- Driver 617.42, the latest before the 621 branch, and all earlier drivers work fully. mVolt+ enables these controls automatically on them.
- Profiles that include voltage limits still apply on 621.01. The voltage limits are skipped and a note is shown.
- BIOS overrides created on an older driver remain active and verified. Remove BIOS override is always available.
What’s new
This release adds hotspot and memory thermal limits, a hotspot thermal input,
laptop power-limit support and keyboard navigation between input fields. Scrolling and
window resizing are smoother, and several bugs are fixed, including resume after sleep,
startup apply on laptops and BIOS override removal.
Power and limits
- Added laptop power-limit support: on laptops whose BIOS allows more power than the driver enforces, the Power cap now raises the laptop's own power request.
- Power cap Reset now also raises board-power requests left below the percentage setting, so no stale cap remains.
- Fixed the Power limit toggle locking after a profile with a cap at the maximum was applied. The power target now updates right after a cap Apply or Reset.
- Limits raised by another tool are now accepted up to the range the driver reports, instead of being held to mVolt+'s own records.
- Fixed the MSVDD clock ratio being unavailable on RTX 30XX cards.
Thermal
- Thermal limits now sets separate limits for GPU, Hotspot and Memory, each with its own Include and Reset.
- Added a Hotspot thermal input. Inputs are now named GPU temp, Memory, Hotspot and Internal 3–5.
- Out-of-range temperature limits are now rejected on leaving the field and by Apply changes in the bottom bar, instead of applying a shortened value.
BIOS override and recovery
- Remove BIOS override is now offered whenever an override is stored, including when the recovery storage is unreadable or damaged.
- After removal, Restart GPU completes it without a Windows restart when the card's own BIOS loads again.
- Fixed settings not being reapplied after sleep when BIOS override limits are in use.
- Fixed laptops where the first Apply or startup profile after boot failed with a V/F curve layout error until mVolt+ was restarted.
Interface
- Tab and Shift+Tab now move between input fields only, in reading order, and wrap at the ends. The arrow keys move to the nearest field, and the dashboard scrolls the field into view.
- Page Up and Page Down step a value like the card's + and − buttons.
- Smoother dashboard scrolling and resizing, especially with other apps running.
- Esc now closes Settings, About and Review changes, and Go to setting closes the review.
- Invalid input shows a single error, including after pressing Enter. Negative values now use a proper minus sign.
- Added CPU effective clock and CPU voltage (VID) to the RTSS CPU group, through PawnIO. CPU clock now shows the clock while the cores are running.
- A software fan curve point at 0% returns fans to automatic control where the GPU cannot stop them.
- CLI errors now name the flag and its allowed range.
