OnionHEN v0.9.0-beta2

Beta, for testing only. This build will have bugs. It can fail to inject, miss the home-screen shortcut, or misbehave on a firmware that v0.0.13 already handled. It is not a stable replacement for v0.0.13. If you need the last stable release, stay on v0.0.13.

Please test a cold boot: reboot, run the exploit, start elfldr, then send OnionHEN.elf once. Loading it again into a ShellUI that already ran OnionHEN is not a supported test.

When you report a problem, include the firmware version, what you did, and /data/OnionHEN/OnionHEN.log. For a cheats problem, also include /data/OnionHEN/OnionHEN_util_daemon.log.

OnionHEN is a homebrew enabler and Toolbox for jailbroken PS5 consoles, built on etaHEN. It prepares the system, injects a Toolbox into the home screen, and adds cheats, a game overlay, payload management, and background services.

Version: This is v0.9.0-beta2, the next test build after v0.9.0-beta1. Still a beta. This one is mainly a fix for the cheats menu.

Firmware under test: 4.03 – 13.60, same as beta1. v0.0.13 covered 4.03 – 12.70. Please try the cheats menu again on 4.03. 13.x still needs testing on real consoles.

What changed since v0.9.0-beta1

Cheats

#97 and #103, on firmware 4.03: opening the cheats menu for a game with no cheats took about 40 seconds. After that the home screen died, and the console did nothing until a forced reboot. This happened on v0.0.13 and again on v0.9.0-beta1. It gets in the way when you are only checking whether that game has cheats.

This build opens that menu in a few seconds, and the home screen stays up. On #103, an early beta2 build was tried and the reporter said the problem is gone.

Home screen

On firmware 5.50, the shortcut in the top-right corner of the home screen shows up.

Plugins, the overlay, payloads, Rest Mode, fan control, and app jailbreak are the same as beta1. elfldr and kstuff-lite 1.11 are the same. HomeUI and Settings still cover 13.0 – 13.6. Details: OnionHEN v0.9.0-beta1.

Quick start

1. You need an already-jailbroken PS5 and an external elfldr listening on port 9021. elfldr v0.22 is not required for this beta.
2. Send OnionHEN.elf with a payload sender, such as itsPLK's PS5 Payload Manager. Send it once after a cold boot.
3. Wait for OnionHEN to start. It may take a couple of seconds. Do not press anything while it is starting.
4. Open Settings to enter the Toolbox, or use the shortcut in the top-right corner of the home screen.

Plugins

Unchanged from v0.9.0-beta1. Place descriptor-bearing plugin ELFs in /data/OnionHEN/plugins. There is still no built-in FTP server. Install onionHEN-ftpsrv-plugin as /data/OnionHEN/plugins/FTPS00001.elf (TCP 1337 by default).

etaHEN plugins and OnionHEN plugins are not compatible.

kstuff

OnionHEN v0.9.0-beta2 bundles kstuff-lite 1.11.

Kstuff loads at startup by default. Turn that off from Toolbox → Plugins → Kstuff, or skip the bundled kstuff with an empty file at /data/OnionHEN/no_kstuff or /mnt/usb0/no_kstuff. Your own kstuff must already be running when OnionHEN starts.

A replacement payload goes at /data/OnionHEN/kstuff.elf.

Important

Hotkey conflicts

Do not run OnionHEN together with other hotkey-injecting plugins or tools.

This includes stock etaHEN, CheatRunner, PHU Tools, YonCore, and Kylin Core cheats. If one of those is already running, OnionHEN refuses to start. If another hotkey injector was loaded first, the console may hang or power off.

Testing

Reboot before each test, then send OnionHEN.elf once. If a game has no cheats, the menu should open in a few seconds and the home screen should stay up (#97, #103). Older firmware can regress too; stay on v0.0.13 if you need that range to keep working.

FAQ

Where did the built-in FTP server go?

It is still not inside OnionHEN. Install onionHEN-ftpsrv-plugin as /data/OnionHEN/plugins/FTPS00001.elf.

Can I run this next to etaHEN?

No. Same rule as v0.0.13. OnionHEN exits if etaHEN, Yoncore, kylin-core, or CheatRunner is already running.
