[8.1.0] - 2026-08-31
Added
- Enhanced Smart Cropping — expanded Amazon Rekognition integration to support smart-cropping across multiple detection methods. In addition to existing face detection, customers can now crop around Rekognition standard labels (e.g.
car, truck, van), retain text via Rekognition text detection, and train and supply their own Rekognition Custom Model for domain-specific detection. Caching is enabled so DIT can reuse Rekognition results and reduce cost. - Multi-Tier Device Detection — moved the CloudFront header-normalization function to a multi-tier detection scheme. Added a
Sec-CH-Widthrender-width signal and a CloudFront device-class tier (cloudfront-is-{mobile,tablet,desktop,smarttv}-viewer, mapped to viewport-width/DPR presets), evaluated as an ordered waterfall with a policy fallback on the ECS service. The device-class tier resolves device dimensions for clients that do not send Client Hints. - Image Transformation Playground — added a Playground page to the Admin UI that issues transformation and optimization requests against the deployed image endpoint and renders the output alongside per-request performance metrics. Because it calls the live endpoint, policies, origin mappings, and configuration must be deployed for it to resolve.
- Content Moderation — brought automatic detection and blurring of sensitive or inappropriate content to the ECS architecture, matching the capability previously available on the Lambda architecture.
- Base64 (
b64) request style — added support forb64-encoded requests on the ECS architecture's image endpoint. - Auto-optimization fallbacks — added an optional
fallbackto thequality, format, andautosizeoutput transformations in the transformation-policy schema (fallback DPR, format, and viewport width respectively), applied by the auto-optimizer when the primary optimization cannot be satisfied, with matching configuration in the Admin UI. - Usage metrics — added metrics tracking for smart-crop usage, content-moderation usage, and client-tier detection.
Changed
- Refactored the container Docker image build to use minimal Amazon Linux base layers.
- SVG requests now pass through unmodified when no rasterizing transformation is requested, and are rasterized (defaulting to PNG output) when a sizing or other raster transformation applies.
- Set a TLS 1.2 floor with PFS ciphers (
TLS12_PFS_2025_EDGE) on the Admin API's defaultexecute-apiendpoint. - Admin UI now uses a shared page layout across pages.
Fixed
- Source image is now inspected via image metadata (not extension) to determine whether it is animated when instantiating Sharp.
- Admin UI redirects to login on token-refresh failure.
- Admin UI allows removal of optional fields when editing entities.
- Reworked autosize fallback to prevent double/repeat breakpoint snapping.
Security
- Restricted origin-override request headers to a
dit-*prefix and validatedCUSTOM_ORIGIN_HEADERto prevent SSRF. - Enforce an image
Content-Typeon origin fetch to prevent raw-body reads. - Constant-time comparison of HMAC request signatures; redacted signatures from query-parameter logging.
- Scale
LIMIT_INPUT_PIXELSto the deployment size. - Reduced cleartext
originHeadersexposure and gated debug logging behind log level.
