Welcome to the final build of Geckium Public Beta 1. Beyond this build will be minor bugfixes, and Public Beta 2.

This release does not support Firefox 154 and above.

Due to changes made in Firefox Nightly, to genuinely improve the browser's security, Geckium will not support Firefox 154 and will be extremely broken to the point of being effectively bricked (every Geckium-exclusive page, including the new tab pages, will break) as bruni and somewhat I coded the pages with a lot of inline scripting in mind (inline scripting will be banned by the changes). I checked and it doesn't seem like I can lift this restriction, so I have made the choice to add a warning banner for the time being.

This will be fixed in the next release, Beta 2, as hefty rewrite work will be necessary to meet the new security requirements.

Edit 28/7/2026: Nightly just promoted the Nova redesign to default status, so regardless there was about to be a temporary support cut-off for Nightly and Developer Edition, lol.

• Bruni is likely not coming back any time soon to fill the MPL-2.0 Relicense's holes
• Geckium as-is is gonna need a ton of changes for Nova support

Therefore, I've made the executive decision to rewrite Geckium for Public Beta 2. This shouldn't take too long, given a fair bit of existing code, resources, etc. is there, but expect fairly radical changes to occur sporadically across Geckium in the upcoming next public beta.

Updating Geckium?

To update Geckium, simply delete your Firefox Profile's chrome folder (use about:support to find your Firefox Profile per the instructions on Geckium's README), and then copy the below Public Beta 2.0 ZIP file's Profile Folder -> chrome folder in its place, before finally closing and opening Firefox. Geckium will handle the rest automatically.

• Fixed breakages amassed through the past few releases, ESPECIALLY BY Firefox 153

• Added a warning for if a user's updated to 154 onwards which has a solution on it

Geckium is in an Early Beta stage

Non-English-speaking Geckium users may find parts of Geckium's user interface are written in [!!! ƥƨèúδôℓôçáℓè !!!] - this means there hasn't yet been a translation for that string in your language - if you see any, please fork the repository, translate the dtd/properties files in locale accordingly, then send a Pull Request to this repository containing the localised strings!

Aside from having incomplete localisation for non-English Geckium users, please remember that due to Geckium being in an Early Beta state, there are many things missing from Geckium currently, including:

• Material Design 1 (or 58, is incomplete and seriously buggy)
• Floating Bookmarks Bar has a buggy background that is either incorrect or is misaligned with the new tab background
• Misc. Downloads Shelf behaviour such as dragging a download
• Error Pages, such as phishing
• Styling for the Downloads page
• Geckium and Firefox Updates from the About dialog/page (Geckium's current update checker is a placeholder until a better, automated, update experience is implemented in the future)
• Preventing the Downloads popup from appearing when downloading a file

These are all planned to be added in future Beta releases.
