The reader release: smaller books, faster pages, real font sizes, and a place that follows you between phone and device.
Requires the new companion apps
This firmware needs the new companion apps to sync.
- iPhone: the new app arrives via TestFlight. Link coming shortly.
- Android: email andrew@flowe.ink for the APK.
What changed
- Books are 3.9x smaller and page turns are 11% faster (package format v4/v5). One package now carries three real font sizes for both panels; changing the size on an X4 finally works.
- Your place travels over Bluetooth. Close a book on the device and the phone picks it up, with a quiet undo. Two screens that disagree get a clear rule, and only truly unclear cases ask.
- Sync with no Wi-Fi at all: Direct mode. The device can also remember several networks, and it reports its real address.
- A stuck transfer screen can no longer strand the device. Failures the radio cannot report survive the reboot, and the screen parks back to the launcher after two minutes.
- Bluetooth reliability: encryption enforced by the stack per connection, repeat-pairing handled, links terminate cleanly before radio shutdown, and the device keeps advertising while connected so a second phone can find it.
- The shelf is honest: it matches what the phone sees, tiles settle on the first render, deletes never take another package, and a book built for the other panel says so and rebuilds.
- Reading stats: streaks count minutes-only days; positions survive a book becoming a package.
- Every build stamps its own git revision (Settings shows it;
GET /healthreturns it). A bug report now names one commit.
Flashing
One update.bin works on both the X3 and the X4 — the firmware picks the panel at boot. Copy it to the microSD root, reinsert, and hold the left side button + power until the update screen appears. Guide: https://www.flowe.ink/flash
