Lock Screen & Screen Saver Support on macOS
macOS versions below 26.0
We no longer support Lock Screen and Screen Saver playback on macOS versions earlier than 26.0.
This decision is based on two main reasons:
-
Technical limitations and OS bugs
Older macOS versions have system-level issues that make it impossible to run reliable video wallpapers on the lock screen or as a true native screen saver without breaking other parts of the system or causing instability. -
No clean solution without hacks
The only ways to simulate this behavior on macOS < 26.0 rely on heavy workarounds and background tricks. These “hacks” are fragile, can conflict with system security, and do not meet our quality or stability standards. We don’t want to ship a feature that only works sometimes or might break after a minor OS update.
Because of this, we’ve decided to officially drop lock screen and screen saver support for macOS versions below 26.0 instead of pretending it’s fully supported.
macOS 26.0 and later
On macOS 26.0 and newer, Lock Screen and Screen Saver are supported natively.
Apple fixed the underlying issues in their own implementation, which means we can integrate with the system in a clean, stable, and officially supported way — without hacks or hidden background apps.
If you want the full lock screen and screen saver experience, we strongly recommend updating to macOS 26.0 or later (if your Mac supports it).
