🍞 💏 Toasted Brave Containers!!!

New features

• Brave containers are totally supported (needs to be explicitly enabled in Brave itself, works with Brave and Brave Origin). Discovery understands container names and colors.
• Script editor: added two buttons to add a template of a new rule and new pipeline function.
• Removing trackers from URLs. BT now removes trackers from URLs, and this is on by default.
  • ClearURLs is used as a rule database, which has a very permissive license, long history, and continuous open-source development. The database ships with Browser Tamer as a part of the installation as clearurls_rules.json file, and each new release includes autmatic updates, if any.
  • There are no external dependencies, downloads, helper processes, etc. Cleaning is done entirely within the application itself. Switching this off will disable tracker removal and any resource usage associated with it (if any).
  • When a tracker is removed, you will be notified in the toast and the picker, depending on the user's preferences.
  • Your choice to disable removal of trackers is respected for real: no database is loaded and no extra processing is performed.
• Fully managed browsers can now be deleted as well. They will rea-appear on rediscovery anyway, however, all the customizations will be lost.

Improvements

• 🍞 Ergonomic improvements in Toast:
  • Hovering on the first line shows full process details for geeks.
  • Hovering on the browser icon shows formatter browser/profile information.
  • Only the domain part of the URL is rendered in the toast. This is to save space as the scheme is not that interesting.
  • When handling local files, Toast properly shows the file path rather than an awkward pretend URL.
• Clipboard functions on Linux now use native calls instead of spawning a clipboard process which may not be present. This also works on Mac (for the upcoming macOS release).
• Slight redesign of the browser list in configuration – toolbar is more announced and does not scroll with the browser list itself. Selected browser has a different background rather than just a thin border.
• Script editor redesigned into two windows – one for code and another for running the script. This way you can have more space on the screen when designing scripts.
• Gecko (Firefox/Waterfor etc.) settings for discovering legacy profiles and containers are now configurable per browser rather than globally. By default, legacy profiles are not discovered, and containers are.
• Nicer looking health check popups with different colors and error messages.
• Unsatisfactory health is displayed as a pulsating red heart.
• URL processing pipeline is now recursive. What this means is pipeline steps will run in the loop until no more changes are made by any of the pipeline steps. To prevent infinite loops, the maximum number of iterations is set to 10.
• clicks.csv has a few improvements:
  • I now record both original and transformed URLs in the CSV file. This is useful for debugging and analysis purposes. Before, only transformed URLs were recorded.
  • Click files are now rolled over by month.

Bugs fixed

• 🍞 Toast would often cause hanging bt.exe on Windows. This happens when it's animated to 0 or negative size – Windows is clever enough to decide that the window is invisible rather than visible with zero size, and BT would enter an idle state rather than terminating when all windows are closed. Something I learned about Windows.
• When the config application is open, health checks are performed every 5 seconds to avoid a stale state after you have changed the default browser.
• Unshortening for URLs was not implemented on Linux because I never added networking capabilities. This is now working via libcurl because Linux does not have a built-in HTTP stack like Windows or macOS.
• Did you know the Brave browser has Tor built-in? Because no one told me it's broken. Autodiscovery now supports Tor mode in Brave again.
