github alondero/automobililamborghini-recomp v0.9.0
Automobili Lamborghini Recompiled v0.9.0

Pre-release quality. Built from main for early testing and feedback. Expect rough edges, crashes and audio glitches. Please report issues you find.

You must supply your own ROM

No original cartridge data or ROM is included. Supply your own legally dumped North American USA copy of Automobili Lamborghini (USA).z64. Desktop users can place it beside the executable; Android users import it in the app. See README.md for installation and save locations.

What's working

Sharper text and a refreshed HUD, with optional texture packs included as separate downloads. Choose Text Only to replace the fonts, or Text and HUD for the fonts, gauges, HUD labels, arrows and menu controls. Cars, roads and scenery keep the game's original textures with either variant. This build also adds optional car details on the selection screen, an option to hide the blue race HUD bar, and texture-pack discovery while playing. Four pull requests have landed on main since v0.8.1, with an additional Android build fix included in this draft. There's still glitches so please report issues you find.

New text and HUD textures

Optional download What changes
automobili-lamborghini-rt64-text-only.rtz 81 replacements: individual glyphs and font atlases.
automobili-lamborghini-rt64-text-hud.rtz 323 replacements: the same fonts plus gauges, player labels, rank suffixes, turn arrows, the PIT sign, script title wordmark and menu controls.

These packs come from my in-development texture project, including its latest speedometer-ring, turn-arrow and step-button cursor corrections. Each archive has a matching -metadata.zip containing credits, artwork and font licenses, provenance, compatibility information and checksums.

Install one variant: open Mods & texture packs, install the .rtz and enable it. Disable any other variant and any overlapping full HD pack. If you previously configured texture_pack in graphics.json, clear it and remove LAMBO_TEXTURE_PACK from your environment so the legacy override does not take priority. See the modding guide.

During play, finish copying a new .rtz into the mods folder, then choose Refresh in Mods and enable it. A refresh can briefly pause the game. The file-picker install route, replacing an existing pack and removing an existing pack still require a restart. Use these packs with v0.9.0 for the corrected HUD matching; older ports can fall back to original textures on affected HUD tiles. RT64 hash version 5 and configuration version 3 are used.

Screenshots

Windows RT64/D3D12 captures at 1280 x 720, using the executable from this release. The six PNGs are also attached below. Click an image to inspect it at full size. The race comparisons use the same circuit and car; capture timing can differ.

Changes since v0.8.1

HUD / texture compatibility

  • PR #314 fixes unstable matching for the speedometer slices, six course-map tiles and rank suffix. Unused texture memory no longer gives those known HUD tiles changing identities, allowing the matching replacement artwork to remain selected. Older packs that only contain the previous aliases need updating. The same change prevents fog density from being repeatedly reduced through save/load cycles. Some old unmarked debug save states cannot safely be loaded with a non-default fog density; create a fresh state from a new race. See HUD notes.
  • PR #313 adds Enhancements > Remove blue bar from HUD. It is off by default, takes effect immediately and remembers your choice. The decorative strip can be hidden while lap, time, position, minimap and speedometer remain visible.

Car selection

  • #305 / PR #315 adds Enhancements > Show car details on car select, off by default. The optional card shows the selected car's name, power, torque, rev limit, top speed, gears and acceleration time. Speed units follow the game's setting; acceleration follows Novice or Expert. These are game-derived figures and port measurements, with calculated values and interpreted units explained in car details. #305 remains open for the separate control-preset work.

Mods / texture packs

  • PR #316 enables Refresh during gameplay to discover newly copied texture packs while retaining existing choices and order. New packs start disabled and eligible texture packs can then be toggled live. Code mods and packages that need startup validation remain locked until restart. Replacing or deleting existing packages also requires a restart.

Release packaging / CI

  • PR #320 restores Android build compatibility after the live-discovery change. The Android C++ library needs the mod-handle type defined before its container. This correction reorders existing declarations without changing gameplay or mod storage. It is included in this release tag and remains a separate PR for review.

What's not done yet

This is still pre-1.0. The issue tracker is the canonical list of remaining work. This release does not complete per-car control presets (#305) or broaden the experimental ray-traced-shadow coverage.

The texture packs are optional artwork variants. Their earlier verification covers sampled menu and race states, rather than every possible layout, car and game state. Linux and Android appearance still need player review. HUD clamping can affect filtering at tile edges; pixel-identical stock rendering is not claimed.

For a crash report, include the output log or crash-*.txt, the version and build provenance below, and where it happened in the game.

How to run

Linux

unzip lamborghini-recomp-linux-x64.zip -d lamborghini-recomp
cp "Automobili Lamborghini (USA).z64" lamborghini-recomp/
./lamborghini-recomp/lamborghini_modern

Requires SDL2 and a Vulkan-capable GPU and driver. See README.md for runtime dependencies.

Windows

Extract lamborghini-recomp-windows-x64.zip, place your ROM beside lamborghini_modern.exe, and launch it. Keep the bundled DLLs and assets beside the executable. F11 / Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen.

Android

Install lamborghini-recomp-android-arm64.apk, open the app and import your USA ROM. Android remains experimental; see the Android guide for requirements and driver notes.

SHA256SUMS covers the platform packages, both texture archives, their metadata bundles and all six screenshots.

Build provenance

  • Port: 3439fbba2729382797d6aaf95f33b43d2a234274, tagged v0.9.0 on 2026-10-17: main 99cd872 plus the Android portability fix and application version update in PR #320.
  • Port workflow: Build & Release #39065160192, dispatched on the pinned v0.9.0 tag with draft enabled and prerelease disabled.
  • Texture source: 5403a8268052fe8f9f16ba7dbdc8eb1e7c4fb3ea, pack metadata version 0.2.0. These are builds of that source commit, not a rename of the separately published v0.2.1 pack.
  • Texture workflow: Build and release texture pack #39064223392.
  • Toolchains: Linux GCC/CMake/Ninja, Windows MinGW-w64 GCC/CMake/Ninja, and Android NDK with release signing, as defined by the tagged workflow.
