OnAir 0.2.5

New modes, whole-span decoding, several receivers at once, a signal workbench, and fixes from your reports. Thank you to everyone who tested and sent recordings, and to F5OEO for the ISDB-T work.

New modes

  • Plain LoRa: raw LoRa point-to-point packets (not LoRaWAN), SF7-SF12, explicit and implicit headers, 433 / 868 / 915 MHz (#20)
  • NOAA Weather Radio SAME: the EAS alert bursts on the seven US and Canadian weather channels, with the event, the areas (partial-county codes included), timing and station, plus the 1050 Hz alert tone
  • Datawell Waverider buoys: the HF link of wave-measurement buoys; HXV (2FSK) buoys decode to heave and displacement, sea state, water temperature and position, HVA (4MFSK) shows measurements only
  • Multitone paging: a detector for Multitone (UK) pagers; the air interface is confirmed, the message layout is not public, so it shows tones, baud and raw words
  • CODAR HF ocean radar: sweeps, stations and the keyed identification
  • Time stations: BPC (China, 68.5 kHz), HLA (Korea, 5 MHz) and the coded BPM signal, all able to set the computer clock
  • WSJT modes: JT65, JT9, Q65, FST4 / FST4W and MSK144
  • fldigi keyboard modes: Olivia, Contestia, MFSK, THOR, DominoEX and Hell
  • NB-IoT cells and Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) network discovery
  • Signal workbench: open a WAV, MP3, raw IQ or SigMF recording, see the spectrum and waterfall, measure peaks and bandwidth, try demodulators (FSK, MSK, GMSK, OOK, AFSK, PSK and more) and read the recovered bits

New features

  • Whole span: the narrowband HF modes (FT8, FT4, WSPR, RTTY, CW, PSK) and the digital voice modes (DMR, NXDN, dPMR, D-STAR, M17, P25) can decode every signal in the visible span instead of only the tuned one
  • Multi-SDR: several receivers at once, each with its own radio and mode
  • Interface: a clearer top bar, a text size setting (View > Text size, Ctrl + / Ctrl -), and resizable panels in the Sidebar and Scope layouts (View > Reset layout puts them back)
  • Spectrum: the dB range fields work at any time, and Ctrl+Up / Down moves the range, Ctrl+Shift+Up / Down widens or narrows it, Ctrl+Home resets it (#91)
  • Converter presets for up / down converters and LNBs (custom LO offset)
  • Export results as ADIF, KML, GPX, CSV and JSON; the spectrum analyser saves full-resolution CSV on a timer (#85); ADS-B in metric units (#85)
  • DAB: save the audio stream of a service; station logos from the service information (#45)
  • DVB-S / DVB-S2: a faster DVB-S symbol path and a CPU / GPU / Auto compute setting
  • ISDB-T decodes real transmissions, and its error correction runs on its own thread (F5OEO)
  • Time and clock: BPM time station, a GNSS clock tab, computer-clock sync from GNSS or a time station, and an optional NTP server on this computer
  • SigMF and WAV IQ files open as a source; the mouse wheel adjusts sliders
  • SoapyRemote: the radios a remote server offers are listed, and the remote driver can be set (#84)
  • The README now links the signal sample library at https://files.on-air.dev: upload your recordings, tagged by mode

Fixes

  • Windows and Intel Macs run on any x86-64 CPU; AVX2 is used when the CPU has it (#74)
  • Airspy HF+: no crash on Stop (#78)
  • Meteor-M LRPT: real frames now pass Reed-Solomon (#79)
  • The fullscreen pop-out and main window stay up when another window or monitor is clicked (#71)
  • AIS: noise is no longer accepted as ships (#87)
  • Airspy Mini: the rate warning says how to turn on 10 Msps

Good to know

  • Several of the new modes were verified on synthetic signals and the recordings available online, not on live signals: NOAA SAME, Datawell, Multitone, BPC / HLA, HaLow, NB-IoT, CODAR. Recordings on Discord or in the sample library help a lot.
  • OnAir is a receiver; what you may listen to depends on where you are.
